COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Pours dark brown, almost black, with decent sized pillowy brown head. Great retention. Deep lovely sweet aroma of coffee, chocolate and liquorice. Absolute silk in the mouth. Brilliant feel and body. Subtle sweet initial tastes of caramel and chocolate. Slightly roast finish, with a hint of coffee. Absolutely brilliant.

One of my favorite stouts. Thick tar black, edging in deep red/brown where the little bit of light can get through. Coffee, toffee, oatmeal, chocolate flavor. Dont drink too chilled because if if is it burns the tongue and the flavors don't really hit you. Great stout.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2004 very dark color, almost like the sexy satin underwear of your lover. dark brown body with temporary tan, but whiter than most stouts, head. now that i stare at the beer more intently its body is more of that of a fine ebony baby girl wearing thin lacey panties. the taste begins with a sweet oatmeal and finishes pleasantly bitter and rich. wonderful aroma of a bowl of oatmeal and cherries.

A nice deep, dark beer that pours with a creamy looking tan head. The aromas are of chocolate, brown sugar, with maybe a hint of hops. The flavor is of roasted malt, chocolate, with a slight alcohol note that reminds me of a good bourbon. The finish has a nice bitterness that balances out the slight sweetness in the taste. Mouthfeel is good, but not as creamy as I expected.

Extremely black, inviting smell. I actually drooled on myself watching the pour and the sumptuous "glug glug glug" sound the beer made as it came out of the bottle. Decent sized, although quickly dissolving, tan head. Oh my, the taste is incredible. Very smooth yet chewy, subtle flavors of oatmeal and carmel, pleasant aftertaste. A truly excellent stout. What an experience. Now, I'm going to go finish my experience...excuse me.

This beer pours a nearly black with hug tannish, creamy head. Sweet roasted malt aromas, some coffee, though not much. Fruit flavor, with more of the roast, leaving a nice coffee and buttery taste in the mouth. Very creamy and smooth finish. A very fine stout.

Bottled. I was skeptical about buying this because of the clear bottle and worrying that it would be another skunky drain pour. I was wrong and it was absolutely delicious. It had a delicious coffee aroma and an even better coffee and butter taste. It was a really nice sweet stout. I will definitely buy this again.

This beer has no real taste. Very disapointing. I think that it is skunked. WHo in there right mind would put a top quality beer being sent overseas in a clear bottle?!?! seriously!!! That's just stupid!

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2003 The #1 rated Sweet Stout, and did this live up to it's ranking. Nice dark color in the pour with a slight tan head. Complex aroma. Malt, chocolate, and some hops comes from the flavor. Creamy too. But it's all PERECTLY balanced. No lingering taste at all. I plan on having many more of these!
