Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.
Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.
A wonderful drinkable Stout. Rich, smooth and creamy. Mildly sweet. Roasty malts. Well balanced but light on the hops. Also not too high in calories or alcohol at 5%. So I can drink more : )

Very dark mahogany pour with a beautiful tall tan head that is slow to rise to the surface. Notes of roasted malts, chocolate, milk coffee, smoke, oxidised grapes, licorice. Clean, simple and delicious. These guys make some of the best low ABV stouts out there, great stuff! Grumbo (3486) - Ipswich, Suffolk, ENGLAND - SEP 11, 2017

Bottle @home. Pours almost black tan/beige head. Nose is chocolate, slightly nutty, slightly fruity, slight licorice. Taste is more of the same, a great wee beer with a great bitter finish. aleanguz91 (64) - Grignasco (NO), ITALY - AUG 17, 2017
Bevuta il 13/08/2017 @MelrosePlace in Romagnano Sesia (NO). Colore nero, schiuma color nocciola poco persistente che si affievolisce fino a rimanere una patina color cappuccino . Birra beverina, non troppo gassata. In bocca predomina il cioccolato con note di caffè. Abbastanza dissetante. Retrogusto leggermente amaro e nel contempo appena acidulo. alvaro78 (577) - Sevilla, SPAIN - AUG 14, 2017
Aromas a cacao y tostados
Buen aspecto espuma fina pero persistente
En boca cuerpo bajo-medio con toques de cacao y torrefacto. Sedosa

Dark brown pour with a thick tan head, fades but still lasts as a thin layer and good lacing. Bready, roasty, coffee and a bit of liquorice on the nose. Taste is similar, liquorice is a bit more noticeable than in the aroma, creamy mouthfeel. AleRider78 (1388) - Winchester, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 30, 2017
Pours a thick foamy, light beige head and has a dark brown appearance. Fairly weak lacing. Light bready and toasty malt aromas with the oatmeal coming through in the finish. Even a bit of vanilla. Mild toasty, nutty flavours with hints of caramel, coffee, very light chocolate notes. Oatmeal flavour is pretty noticeable but still weak. Creamy and chalky mouthfeel. Pretty average carbonation. Not too bad. Too much of a watery mouthfeel. Was expecting something with more substance and/or thickness.
