COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Poured from a chilled 1 pint, 2.7 ounce (550 mL) dark brown glass bottle into a Samuel Smith labeled pint glass. Ahhh, like an ode to breakfast, this be. Glad it was reintrod way back during the passed century. Whats to say but this indeed should be celebrated. Think Ill have another.

Mostly roasted bitterness to the smell light grainy fruity aroma. Deep mahogany slightly see through. Bright light smooth roasted malt bitterness. Thin body works with how light yet smooth the mellow roast is.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black clear beer with a medium sized not long lasting dense to creamy amber head. In the nose aroma of malt, cold coffee and some hints of spice, maybe cinnamon. Tastes malty sweet, bitter like dark chocolate, coffee, low to medium hop. Its not really sweet and not really bitter, its in a very good balance and the medium to low carbonation and the smooth, almost creamy texture makes this beer very drink- and enjoyable. On the other hand you could call it boring since it has no edges, but sometimes you want a round and uncomplicated beer. Lets say so, you can enjoy this beer with friends who are not used to strong or too complex tasting beer while still having a good one. If you do that, offer them also the Nut brown ale from Samuel Smith and later then the imperial Stout.

355 ml bottle. Pours a very dark clear red-brown to black with a quickly disappearing light brown head. Aroma of mildly roasted malt - caramel, coffee with milk, some herbal fruityish notes. Medium, soft body with a low carbonation, alight bitterness and in the beginning also a light sourness - a little watery. Taste of roasted malt, dark chocolate, some caramel and again some fruitish notes (apples).
