Bottle: Filtered
Name changed from Old Brewery Pale Ale to Organic Pale Ale in 2011.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, yeast, hops.
Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); best barley malt, yeast and aromatic hops; fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create a full, rounded flavour and after-taste.
Best served at about 51°F (11°C).

Clear golden brown beer. Light malt aroma. There’s a nice balance of light, sharp hop and sweet malt. There’s a slight fizz to it as well. Both the malt and the hop last on the tongue though it’s slightly drier.

.5 /l bottle. Hazy, copper colored body with a decent off-white head. While my last Samuel Smith's beer (their Pure Brewed Organic Lager) was disappointing, I am a fan of this brewery and this pale ale fosters that view. The malt/hop ratio is high for style, leaving some toffee and bread flavors most obvious. There are adequate hops to add complexity and to make this mildly bitter overall. Overall: a "pale ale" leaning towards an ESB or brown ale.

Bottle from the Green Shop in Berwick upon Tweed. Appearance - amber brown with a nice lacy head. Nose - caramel shortbread. A hint of citrus or pine if you use your imagination. Taste - more caramel and more shortbread. A lemony edge. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy yet crunchy texture. Dry but fairly indulgent finish. Overall - lovely beer.

35,5cl bottle from Kaubamaja, Tallinn. Didn't really expect a gusher, so it started out a bit messy. Calmed down and it pours clear copper coloured with a big, fast dissipating off-white head. Aroma is rather malty with notes of caramel, ripe fruits and hints of herbs and pine. Medium sweet with mild, smooth flavours and a fine bitterness. Quite nice, but a bit too much on the sweet side for my taste.

Bottle at the Rising Sun, Smithfields, London. Pours slightly hazy dark amber with a good sized off-white head. Intense fruity, hoppy, malt aroma, with blackberry, bread, citrus, yeast and toffee. Medium plus sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, average carbonation. Sweet caramel fruity finish. Surprisingly good.

Well, that was a surprise. Chilled and it gushed. Clearish copper colour, 2 fingers of foam with lacing. Serious English malt nose going on. Earthy, kinda sweet and nutty. Citrus hops bring a light fruitiness. The taste is sweet(caramel), nutty, earthy, balanced by a mild citrus hop kick. Simple effective mouthfeel..not a full body but not that far off. Very very drinkable.

Bottle at Glasshouse Stores, Soho. It pours clear deep amber - copper with a substantial white head. The aroma is rich, earthy, wood, ripening orange, marmalade, earth, wood and leather. The taste is dry, bitter, wood, leather, toasted nut, tangy orange marmalade, slightly metallic, bit of spice and gingerbread with a drying finish. Medium body and lively, effervescent carbonation. This actually had plenty going on. Found it rather enjoyable really.
