Brewed with well water (the original well, sunk in 1758, is still in use with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground), the gently roasted organic cocoa extract impart a delicious, smooth and creamy character, with inviting deep flavours and a delightful finish - this is a marriage of satisfying stout and luxurious chocolate.

It is a good chocolate stout, sweeter than the young’s. The color is black and white foam, low carbonation. The taste is really sweet but it is not unpleasant, it is like milk and chocolate for the breakfast, few hop, milk chocolate, some roasted malt. I bought this bottle at Zürich, at the drink of the world.

Buena cerveza en su conjunto con buen color y buena retención de espuma de color veige. Carbonatación media y un sabor dulce entre el chocolate y el dulce de leche. Amargor final seco proveniente del cacao y maltas tostadas

Pours dark brown, with a brown, creamy head. Aroma is chocolate malts, vanilla, mocca and bread, as well as nuts and leather. Full, velvety body, with very soft carbonation. Flavour is roasted malts, with dark chocolate, wooden barrels and light coffee notes. Lingering, balanced malty finish. Very nice.

*Old rating. Nice chocolatey roasted milk chocolate beginning. Intense but a bit sweetish, milk chocolate, round and refreshing. Caramel, hints of vanilla, round and deep great.

Bottle from Andrew Hilton wine & spirits in Lethbridge. Pours a opaque obsidian black, with a one finger foamy brown head. No lacing. Nose is powdery milk chocolate, can’t determine much else. Palate is light to medium body, soft carbonation, nice balance of chocolate and malt character with some subtle hop presence. Mouthfeel is creamy, chocolatey goodness. One of the best chocolate beers I’ve had. Quite well made.

Hard not to rate highly smells devine looks good the chocolate is very smooth and prominent lacks some balance to it nice but overly sweet it’s like a cold dairy milk chocolate drink would be great instead of dessert

Non sono riuscito a finire il bicchiere. Aroma e gusto decisamente artificiali e stucchevoli.

Bottle from Alko, Helsinki. Pours dark brown with a little head. The aroma features mostly chocolate and cocoa with some roasty maltiness in the background. Taste is medium sweet with expectedly cocoa heavily on the forefront, some hazelnut and milk chocolate sidelining. A bit one-dimensional flavour profile but the body is by and large able to support it; it is about medium in strength. Velvety smooth texture. Sweet and chocolaty but not much else.

550ml Flasche. Klar und dunkelbraun mit großer Schaumkrone. Sehr intensive Schokoladen- und Kakaoaromen. Süße hält sich erstaunlicherweise in Grenzen und ist noch angenehm.

Organic stout made with cocoa extract, thanks to Jan for sharing. Thick, lacing, pale yellowish beige, stable head on top of a very dark (blackish) chestnut brown beer. Aroma mostly consists of a lot of sweet and fragrant cocoa powder, of the kind I used to make chocolate milk with when I was a child; apart from that, there are much more subtle hints of toffee, toasted bread, iron, brown sugar, dried flowers and coffee grounds. Sweetish onset but less overpowering and much less sweet in terms of chocolate than expected based on the aroma, mild carbonation, toffeeish malt sweetness with a toasted, bittering edge, thin body with a metallic ’sound’ to it, soft herbal hops in the finish, bittersweet. I liked the aroma, one-sided as it may be, much more than the actual taste, which I expected to be thicker and sweeter, but this is in any case a very interesting beer.
