mullet (849) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 29, 2004
Quite dark but clear, reasonable head retention (head was rather brown-yellow). Aromas of licorice, roastiness, malt like a caramel milkshake, chocolate and currants. Great fresh malt flavour (esp. considering the journey), quite a strong charcoal roast flavour and light bitterness but it’s all balanced very well. Quite creamy body, moreso than their Oatmeal Stout in my book. Good - my favourite of this brewery’s range so far.

A tart finsih with the best of smokey flavor you would expect from a porter. Maybe slightly overcarbonated but still a very good effort!

mutant (854) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 28, 2004
Enthusiastic carbonation, jet black with a huge head which colapses slowly, intreguingly and attractively. Sweet chocolatey aroma. Profound coffee flavour which is creamy yet dry as well. A long and very pleasant finish.

eczematic (1325) - Adelaide, AUSTRALIA - APR 26, 2004
what a powerful beer. ash, molasses and marmalade aroma, more of same in taste + licorice, salt, vegemite and raisins. extremely tarry which i love. looks and tastes like coal.

Alcoholist (570) - Peoria, Illinois, USA - APR 24, 2004
A dark brown color with a thin head. Aroma is caramel roasted grain and a touch of smoke. Flavour is the same with a light body and a sour finish.

Malakin (470) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 20, 2004
Smells mainly of sweet caramel. Flavour is a roasted chocolate caramel flavour. The first sip seemed overly sweet but as I got further in that subsided and the roasted chocolate flavour started to dominate instead.

wilkie (1208) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - APR 20, 2004
Bottle. Very fizzy, rapidly dispersing head--looks kind of like a pepsi. Dark, ruby, clear appearance. Aroma is slightly roasty. Flavor is slightly sweet, roasty, and finishes a little dry but not hoppy. A littly watery and unbalanced in the flavor.

piscator34 (2534) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - APR 7, 2004
Almost black with a tan head. Aromas of dark berry fruit, malt, and a bit of chocolate. Tangy and bitter flavors of espresso, nuts, and some sort of mineral that I can't pinpoint. A little too carbonated and a little too astringent for my taste, but this is still a well made beer. Thanks presario.

DocLock (10702) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 6, 2004
Deep blackish burgundy in color, with a great thick head. Great smell of caramel, toffee, and nuts. Tastes very malty, with hints of molasses, soy sauce, caramel, chocolate, and port. Finishes very smooth, with a nice hoppy malty tang at the end.

3.5
BeerandBlues2 (13323) - Escondido, California, USA - APR 5, 2004
Black with a small brown head. Dark chocolate and malt aromas. Flavor of black coffee and a little toasty. Slightly bitter on the end. Fizzy and burpy palate.
