Not near as good as the Oatmeal Stout, this beer screams soy sauce at me. This would definitely compliment sushi or other Japanese foods, however, as my after-dinner drink, this one is somewhat lacking. Not much of a head and an extremely dark appearance, this beer does not follow through with a beerish taste, rather, it's just soy sauce all the way through. I'm surprised this one wasn't brewed by Kikkoman.

Nice tan head, dark brown body. Aroma of mollases, coffee, nutty. Taste is malty, slighty bitter but just the right amount. Not as good as Stone's Smoked Porter, but it is a good Porter. I guess I could have picked a 'better' beer for my 100th rating, but this one will do.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2004 Nice coffee and baking chocolate arome. Pours pitch black with a medium, lasting beige head. Tastes of coffee with roasted flavors. Rich and bittersweet. Decent hop presence; somewhat dry. Very good.

Very smooth with a nice beginning. Tastes almost like Newcastle, but much more bitter. The finish and aftertaste are both strong, but that is a good thing because the aftertaste is great. I highly recommend it.

bottled: dar blach-brown hue. tan head. dark roasted malt aromas full bodied palate, dried fruit accents with hard malty finish. some sweetness evident as well. not as good as the more full flavor of fullers

compared versus Fullers, and without question, Fullers was better. Sam's was lighter, fizzy, and not as heavy as a porter should be. Taste was a bit off...perhaps this bottle had soured.

Very thick and substantial tan head on a dark body with a reddish glow. Not the heaviest aroma, some roasted malt, fruit and yeast. Flavor is fruity with a slight lemon sourness. Malt, bitter chocolate and Samuel Smiths characteristic yeast. Quite carbonated but still a smooth mouthful. Not as flavorful as Samuel Smiths stouts but still a great and easy drinkable beer!

Carmel aroma. Very thick creamy head. This beer is smooth with roasted coffee\nutty flavors. The finish is very smooth.

Medium/Strong alcohol nose. Poured beautifully, with heavy carbonation for a porter. This on is on the dry/roasted/nutty side, but still manages to maintain its smoothness. This is a "portlier" porter. The dry finish is lacking a little.
