3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
One finger of head on a clear, amber colored body.
The aroma is like a barnyard with a heavy dose of malt.
The taste is malty sweetness, hardly any bitterness and a little bready.
It has a heavier texture with moderate carbonation.
It’s a nice and flavorful winter ale.
Sampled at the 2017 McKenzie Cider and Craft Beer Festival. Nice to sample something from across the pond for once. dflb (42) - California, USA - NOV 8, 2017
UPDATED: NOV 8, 2017 Acquired at Trader Joe’s, Winter Welcome Ale is an English Pale Ale concocted by Samuel Smith Old Brewery.
The scent of caramel, toffee, and figs are smelled as you take a drink. Sweet malt casts a sweet take along with the ingredients of the beer. Fuggle and Golding hops offer an earthiness to the feel. An alcohol content of 6.0% is susceptible and offers a fair warming to the beverage.
The flavor of caramel is sensed from start to finish. Toffee creates volume to the caramel sensation and feel, and blends well with the malt. Figs is experienced along with the caramel and malt body, but is easily depicted in the watery finish. Peaches create a fruity texture and offer a light bitter tang to the beer.
Winter Welcome Ale is a seasonal, English Pale Ale. Caramel is dominate. Toffee enriches the sweet and malty character. Figs provide a pleasing tone throughout the beer. Peaches is a nice change of pace and accent to the experience and mouthfeel. Winter Welcome Ale is a tasteful, toned down warmer seasonal beer. Only wish winter beer is year round.
Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer.

This pours from 550ml brown bottle a nice clear medium gold with a big, thick head of foam that shrinks to a solid 1" layer after a few minutes and it has a lot of sticky lacing. The foam stays for the entire session.
The smell is a strong whiff of caramel malt along with a touch of roasted malt and just a smidgeon of hops.
The taste has a big malt profile: caramel and roasted malt tickle my taste buds oh so nicely and there's more hop goodness than I would have suspected going by the smell. Wonderful balance and a real treat to sip on. It has a medium mouthfeel, the carbonation is medium, and it finishes with a good crisp hoppy dryness. Love it. It's one of my favourite Winter Warmers and I'm always so pleased to find it on the shelf and now that SS keeps putting it in brown bottles, no more fear of getting a skunked bottle! I recommend it highly!

Aroma is roasted malts, honey, and a touch of citrus. Taste is light sweet malts, toffee and some light herbs. The light earthiness and traditional tasty mineral notes rounds out the profile. higgsbison (264) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 20, 2017
Nice beer, A hearty English ale. Sweet and malty with notes of biscuit. Slightly bitter long-lasting aftertaste gives it a nice balance. One of my favorite winter ales
July 2017. Really enjoying this beer. This time I am noticing Pepper notes in the very long lasting bitter aftertaste. The bitterness is not offputting it is nicely balanced and refreshing. It kind of reminds me of rogue's dead Guy ale

Pours a small amount of foamy head and has a clear, light copper appearance. Aromas of light malts, hops and some spices. Flavours of roasted malts, goldings hops, light spices, a touch of cinnamon and even a little bit of a syrup, like maple but very faint. Fairly bland mouthfeel, not much feeling. Not bad but not much of a winter warming beer. A bit disappointing. Mister_Li (1564) - GERMANY - MAY 5, 2017

Bottle 0,5ltr: Clear orange colored brew with an spot-on dry bitter taste with some fruitiness, delightfully British wiith the hints, biscuit, toffee and christmas spices. azzurro (417) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - APR 12, 2017
Glad to see a lot of christmas spirit beer. This one is a bit spicy, worth trying. Almogabar (76) - MARIA DE HUERVA (ZARAGOZA), SPAIN - MAR 3, 2017
