Draft - I must admit I didn’t think that I would be saying that a porter was the best beer I had during a recent beer trip to San Diego but it sure was. Starts with a wonderful creamy head due to the nitro. It leaves a nice mustache on your lip. Aroma is of course chocolate and coffee. Flavor is of milk chocolate and toffee, but not over done. It is so smooth and delightful that we returned to the pub 3 times over 4 days to have it. It can also be found at the Liars Club on Mission Blvd. Awesome beer Dean, keep up the good work! Pours jet black with nice creamy head. Aroma of chocolate with slight roasted coffee. Flavor of dark chocolate followed by slight coffee finish. A terrific interpretation of the style and nice dessert beer. bsierra (213) - Vista, California, USA - APR 6, 2008
Had on nitro draft at Sd Brew. Co. Pours a very dark brown with a creamy tan head, great retention. The nose is very full of rich chocolate malts and fresh coffee beans. The mouthfeel is fullbodied and the taste is that of decadent chocolate infused with roasted malts. The finish was very smooth and quite delicious. Thanks for your time and info. on your fantastic beer Dean, again GREAT JOB! bkanderson3 (4) - USA - NOV 7, 2007 does not count
I am not a chocolate fan so was not expecting to like it at first taste. It poured a deep black with rich creamy head. The aroma had a pronounced chocolate and toffee. Moderate body with a well balanced chocolate taste very pleasant easy drinking porter. It’s the kind of session beer you could drink all day, very unusual for a porter. I would highly recommend this beer to everyone.

Nitro tap at brewery. Pours dark brown with a big, creamy, light brown head, sheet lace. Smells subdued malty. Tastes awesome, chocolatey, dark malty, but the sweet chocolate flavors linger very nicely. Solid medium body, smooth as silk carbonation. Best chocolate beer that I’ve ever had

Very dark black pour with a really nice head. I didn’t get nearly the aroma I was expecting. Some dust and roast, but no chocolate or coffee. But the flavor really came through with both. Very good flavor with chocolate and coffee, some dust on the finish. Nice Ibrew2or3 (8660) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JAN 13, 2008
On tap (nitro) @ San Diego Brewing brewpub. Pours out deep dark brown with the classic creamy tan nitro tapped head and sheet lacing. There is a mild aroma of roasted malts, coffee and malt sweetness. The nose could be a bit bolder. The initial taste was one of those WOW experiences. It bursts with rich velvety dark chocolate, chocolate covered malt balls and coffee, yum. Great mouth feel too. I also get mild vanilla and then moments of burnt malts. The classic Porter burnt (or highly roasted) malts take a back seat to the chocolate malts and coffee. Great tasting brew that seems to include a bit of a heavy cream Latte type sensation. On draft at SD BrewCo. Dark brown and almost completely opaque (save for deep garnet highlights) and a moderate sized creamy beige head. Aroma of nice roasty malts, bakers chocolate and espresso beans. Flavor is roasty, bitter and sweet with coffee, milk chocolate and bakers chocolate, light cream and floral hops. Full body with a oily and somewhat still mouthfeel. Nice one Dean! Oscbert (1313) - Lincoln, California, USA - JUN 17, 2008
~Pours black with red tints and creamy brown head.
~Scent of chocolatte, coffee, alcohol and malts.
~Nice mellow choclate coffee flavor.
~Nice smooth feel.
~This is delicious! Very good choclate porter. JoeMcPhee (9427) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 28, 2008
Tap at SDBC. Very dark brown-black beer with a creamy tan nitro head. Aroma is fairly nice. Lots of soft cocoa and chocolate malt. A kiss of coffee but it’s much sweet than the aroma suggests. The sweetness works though and rather than making the beer seem sugary it makes it drink like sweet milk chocolate. Very soft creamy palate with a touch of light toasty bitterness. Pretty damn solid beer, really.
