COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Gripman’s Porter’s roasted barley malts create a full bodied, sensational flavor of dark chocolate and roasted grain. A hoppy taste supports the rich, creamy roasted malt character without overpowering it.

Draft. A murkcy chestnut brown beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, alcohol, and caramel - not very porter like. The flavor is sweet with an acidic edge from the roasted malt, combined with notes of sweet malt, caramel, and alcohol, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. Where is the roasted malt?

Tap at the brewpub: Deep copper brown with a lacing off white head. Mild toasted aroma with a touch of sweet crystal malt. Mildly carbonated and creamy. Nutty, freshly malty flavor with a chocolaty note. Has a light toasted malt back. Solid, feels British.

Tap @ SFBC. Clear dark color, short head. Aroma of coffee, cardboard. Soft roasted coffee taste. Not a good porter.

Black-brown molasses colored with ring of head. Caramel and roasted notes contribute to aromatic balance. Decent roast flavor with caramel complexity. Well-balanced and nicely nuanced.

Bobsy (194) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 2, 2008
Sampler at the brewpub. Dark brown body with a small tan head. The aromas are sweet and roasty. The flavour had hints of chocolate, smoke and roasted malts. I say hints, because this had a disappointingly light touch, and the flavours seemed more shadows than reality.

omhper (24962) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - DEC 17, 2007
Draught at the brewpub. Clear dark brown, small head. Sweet and salty with rounded dense mouthfeel. Roasty with some licorice, fruity and quite syrupy. Salty finish. Light flavoured and lacking in malt firmness.

hotstuff (5140) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - OCT 14, 2007
Draft at SFBC. Very small tan head that quickly dissipated, mostly opaque, no visible carbonation and a dark brown hue with a red tint. Nose was chocolate, malty and roasty. Ditto for the flavor along with a burnt taste. Smooth mouthfeel and light body. Disappointing for the style as it lacked character and the flavor was "just there". Did not leave me wanting more. Much better out there of this style to be had.
