Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at The Coffee Grounds in Eau Clarie, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque bark brown colored brew with a creamy beige head that has some excellent retention and lacing. Aroma roasted dark malt, a hint of soy, light molasses, some light prunes and a touch of raisin. Taste is medium to full bodied, flavor is quite complex with flavors of dark chocolate, molasses, dark pitted fruits, and some grassy hops. Finish is mildly spicy with a lingering bitterness , semi-dry, with some dark pitted fruit aftertaste. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - AUG 21, 2012
Thanks to GhostFace for this one. Cheers, Neal! Pours an amber-orange with an off-white head. Nose is sweet malt almost like an amber, belgian fruity yeast, and some pine sap. Flavor is similar- lots of sweet malt with some Belgian yeast and bits of pine. Medium in body for a barleywine and nice overall. emacgee (4674) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - FEB 19, 2012
Pours a viscous dark brown that sits near black in the glass. Two fingers of creamy tan head. Nose is slightly toasted and chocolaty with a forward malt character and herbal hop character. Slightly earthy. Metallic acidic dark grain character. Sharp and astringent. esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 1, 2013
Dark black with a large creamy brown cap. Aroma of licorice, dark malts, peated malts, citrus and light molasses. Taste is sweet and malty with licorice, citrus, peat, alcohol, dark chocolate and some earthy notes. reggiedunlop (3718) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 20, 2012
Pours deep brown/black with a thick tan head. Aroma is mild but has a roastiness with delicate spicy hop notes. Flavor is hop forward with herbal and spicy hop notes and some burnt roasty malt notes and faint dark chocolate following. Mouthfeel is heavy and silky with a bitter, roasty warming finish. Very interesting and tasty!

Poured this at a good temperature with a huge, foamy, frothy, billowy, light tan head that lasts a while and some lace. Color is a clear mahoganey with a few bubble trails. Aroma is hop, malt, roast, fruit, hint of licorice. Flavor is similar to nose, very smooth, on the mild side, fairly dry up front, then bitter, fruity, and a little carbonic tang. Body & carbonation are good. Finish alternates bitter/sweet, long and boozy. Fairly drinkable except, I suspect the strength. madvike (3250) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 21, 2011
Bottle - Dark cola color with a thin off-white head. Molasses, caramel, dark chocolate and lots of herbal hops. A bit spicy. Kind of reminded me of Nemesis ’10. Lots of herbal, spicy hops in the taste, with lots of pumpernickel bread malt and a spicy yeast finish. Smooth as heck, with a pretty full body. Not too bad, but not really my style. Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. There are notes of dusty cocoa, earthy, woody, prune, hints at a vinious character, slight astringency, finishes dry. Nothing special, no balance, the malts are subtle. arkurzynski (2415) - Combined Locks, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 7, 2012
Black with red hues, tons of soft, off-white head and good lacing. Light cocoa, skunky hops, and Belgian candy gives this beer a bit of an odd aroma. Flavor is a bit better with refined roast malt, light molasses/caramel, and finishing with some moderate, almost citrus, hop flavor. Pretty dry, almost taking away from the finish. Some lingering candy/faint roast. Ok mouthfeel, but Belgian yeast steals some of the maltiness. Pretty smooth, perfectly carbonated. Pieces are there, but choppy. Bottle. Dates, sugar and molasses in the nose. Fittingly, an opaque black body. Very little head. Largely tastes as it smells. Rich, sweet and some molasses. Fairly strong hop profile does a nice job in balancing this brew. Very enjoyable.
