Bottle - small tan foamy head, very deep amber/almost black color, sweet and roasty malty aroma and flavor, good size hop balance, dark fruity notes, fairly complex - pretty good overall

Nice dark pour with a lasting head. Has a nice dark fruit scent, bold fruit flavored with an incredibly smooth alcohol taste.

Pours clear, nearly black. Small wispy tan head, lasting with some decent lacing.. Aroma is sweet and sticky. Caramel, toffee, overripe red fruits, dark fruit. Flavor doesn’t quite stand out like the aroma does, s little more chocolate and roast.. Medium body. Finishes with pleasant alcohol warmth that falls just short of being boozy. Moderate piney bitterness. A little dryness. Pretty balanced. Quite smooth. I enjoyed this take on barley wines, looking forward the bourbon barrel version on deck next. wxman (1814) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - MAR 14, 2012
Pours a clear very dark cola color with a full lumpy light tan head. Aroma is molasses and dark dried fruit. Taste is sweet roasted malt, blackstrap molasses, slightly bitter burnt coffee beans and raisins. Very complex, but well balanced. ABV is there too, but not in your face. Super stuff! Pours ebony black into the glass with a large light brown head. Nose is carmel and hops. Very creamy on the palate with a thick viscosity. The taste is full of dark roasted malt, chocolate, toffee with a slight hops finish. An excellent beer that pairs well with red meats off the grill or stands alone as an excellent nightcap. alassio (96) - USA - FEB 2, 2012
This is an unusually ’tight ’ "black" beer compared to lusher, maltier BIPA’s. The hops kick in with a tree-bark bite, but then it gets interesting with a lasting sour bite at the back of the mouth. This beer will kind of have you sitting bolt upright in your chair and your eyes may bulge a bit, but when you pay a premium for exotic numbers like this one, it is an essential aspect of the experience. 400lb_midget (93) - West Bend, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 16, 2012
12oz. Bottle. Didn’t know what to expect as I haven’t had a beer quite in this style. Smells sweet, a little nutty, and mild piney hops. Looks deep brown with a tight bubbled tan head with leaves clumpy lacing on the glass. Tastes slightly nutty, decent initial hopping adds a dryness on the back of the palate, overall sweet in character with notes of caramel and candied sugar. Good beer, glad I found it. This is a very interesting beer. I didn’t know what to think but I soon found myself looking for more.
