I concur with Mark, but hell I’ll rate it too. It’s very much on the mild end of Impys but some fine dark chocolate, medium roast and a cocoa and sugar finish. Well rounded with no pointy ends.
Bottle @ Floris’ Leaving Party. Pours a dark brown, almost black beer with a thin, creamy tanned head on top. Aroma of chocolate ,caramel and vanilla, some toffee notes and dark fruits. Flavor is bittersweet, lots of dark chocolate notes, light caramel in the background. Carbonation is fairly low, aftertaste quite long and bittersweet. Botella. 2017. Roasty deep dark maltiness indeed in the sweet aroma with chocolate along with dark fruits and coffee. Sweet deep roasted maltiness and chocolate in the aroma along with coffee, dark fruits, bit smoke, light wood, some alcohol underneath it all, dry. Great brew indeed! April 22nd, 2014 - From a luxurious beer store in Meguro, Japan comes the SanktGallen Imperial Chocolate Stout, a beautiful red ribbon label wrapped around a bottle, and gingerly recommended by the enthusiastic beer store owner. Dark and creamy on the eye, it is also dark and creamy in the nose, with lots of chocolate malt and a thick, rolling chocolate smell like Nesquik. The palate is powdery and soft, blowing away to unveil a sweet and smokey aftertaste,though smokier than sweet. Well balanced, it bridges the traditionally sweeter holiday flavors with a more adult, more mature smoked element, which I find much better than overly sweet fudges or fruit cakes that were passed around just four months ago. mrjez (673) - Osaka, JAPAN - NOV 3, 2015

L: a lovely near black pour with a light tan head that lasts for ages and leaves sticky lacing.
S: dark roasted malt, bitter chocolate, a touch milky, a light herb like cilantro, some citrus in there.
T: follows the nose, roast notes up front, dark chocolate.
F: has an acrid finish, slightly over bitter and a tiny sour note, with a medium body, leaving it feeling a tad unbalanced. No alcohol feel. It comes off sharp where I wished it ended smooth and warming.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2016 2016 Bottle. More or less the same as before. A little too roasty and one-dimensional. Not bad though. 330ml bottle 2015 edition (9% ABV) from Ito Yokado in Asagaya. Poured into a tulip glass. Dark brownish black color with a huge soapy brown head. Big aromas of burnt coffee, coriander, roasted malts, bitter chocolate, alcohol and hops on the nose. Tastes strongly of bitter dark cacao, burnt coffee, cardamom with slight hints of corrainder and arugula. Can’t really taste the alcohol on the palate. Well-hidden. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Mostly bitter and peppery finish.
