On tap at GJBF, Osaka, 2008.
A great, flavorful, rich stout. Strong, well roasted, rich and powerful but very well balanced. One of the best Japanese stouts I have had. Very rich and creamy.

Tried with TimE on tap I think at Towers in Tokyo. First, I think it is wrong to use the word imperial for a 7% beer. Oh well, on the other hand freedom is a good thing. Black color. Very chocolatey in taste and aroma. Dryish (I prefer sweetish). Aroma has some malty notes. buzzoven (376) - JAPAN - JUN 22, 2008
Bottle from grocery store. Was looking forward to trying this one as Sankt Gallen puts out some fairly good (if not somewhat predictable) beers. Poured a deep dark black with a rocky head. Smell of dark chocolate on the nose, roasted coffee..but overall subdued in the aroma dept. Taste was bitter...wow. more bitter than i was expecting. Something not quite right about this one. I was glad i tried it, but the balance seems somewhat skewed. Maybe I am just missing something. I like bitter beers, but i think that the mouthfeel doesn’t match the taste and the flavours are just not matching up. Not a bad brew by any means...just not sure if this is my idea of an ideal Imperial Stout. BückDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - OCT 7, 2007
Tasted @ GJBF Yokohama: Dark black, nice light tan head and nice lacing. Nose of roasted malt, nice fruit and bright cocoa, strong and lots of sweet roast in the flavor. Decent, fairly strong finish. asheft (3082) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 14, 2007
[on tap at Ushi-Tora]
Plumy, roasted barley aroma with detectible hops. Opaqe yet clear black-brown with no top. Excellent stout, burnt/bitter flavour with a sweet Belgian dark chocolate finish. Lingering bitterness and moderate carbonation.

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2009 An excellent brew, but the bitterness prevalent is just a bit too overpowering. Otherwise this is an excellent example of the imperial.
Rerate 2009 edition. The bitterness has been toned down and it’s smoother than previous years. very nice Capa (3297) - Kitsap, Washington, USA - FEB 11, 2007
UPDATED: APR 8, 2009 Poured black with a nice tan head. Roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and a little bit of alcohol in the aroma. Flavor was chocolate and roasted malts with some whiskey hidden underneath. Finish was about as bitter as I’ve ever had in an imperial stout. Body was rich and full. A very well made stout. A lot of hype around this beer. Didn’t quit live up to all the hype, but still not complaining at all.
Pitch black. Little head. Whisky, dark chocolate notes in the nose. Big bitter dark chocolate mouth. I meant really bitter. Some dark fruit and caramel notes as well. Full bodied. Big bitter finish with lots of dark chocolate.
