Botella. Deep dark brown colour, medium light brown head. Sweet roasty malty aroma. Flavour is sweet with roasted malt, some chocolate and bit dark fruit. Thin like.

Japan has many Kokutou Sweet Stouts but I am pretty Sankt Gallen’s was the first. Served in my stout glass. I haven’t had this 6.5% beer in year’s but it was part of the Valentine’s set so I am revisiting it. It’s now part of SanktGallenBrewery / 元祖地ビール&# サンクトガー&# core line up and pours a cola brown with a thick beige head of foam.

The aroma is sugary sweet, molasses & chocolate buns. The taste is solid sweet dark sugar, molasses and dark sweet bread. Not a stout to knock your socks off but a decent one to chill out with on a rainy Sunday evening.

Great Japan Beer Fest in yokohama. Rich dark brown color with a nice tan head. Toffee, roasted malt and brown sugar on the nose. Nice roasted coffee taste with slight hints vanilla and molasses. Starts of creamy but thins out on the palate. Well balanced. Sankt Gallen is quite good with their dessert stouts and porters.

Pours black with coffee crema head. Aroma has a good bit of tasty kokutou. Mouthfeel is pretty thin, moderate sweetness with slight sourness and bitterness from the dark malt and a little sweetness on the finish from the kokutou. A little thicker and it’d be quite interesting.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2014 From a bottle poured a dark brown color with a small amount of head. Sweet toasted malty flavor with a quick finish.

Bottle pours black with a light tan head. Aroma is vanilla with some chocolate. Taste is sweet - very sweet, with vanilla and chocolate, with a metallic flavor on the finish. Medium mouthfeel. Good carbonation. There are some interesting flavors in there, but I can’t get past the vanilla and the odd sweetness.

Bottle 330ml.

[ Trade by KyotoLefty ]. Clear dark red brown colour with a huge, open and frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dusty malt, shoe polish, light earthy. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, shoe polish, roasted, sweet malt, dusty malt. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20131011]

330 ml bottle from Precce @ Nakameguro. Stout that is brewed with black cane sugar, interesting! Pours dark dark brown with a nice head that reduces into beautiful lacing. Aroma is thick roasted malt together with some caramel sweetness. Charred black bread. Taste is not as sweet as I dreaded - initial carbonation kick gets your tongue tingling, followed by roasted bread, coffee-caramel bitterness, ending up in a sweet aftertaste. Black sugar is difficult to spot, it is well balanced with some hop bitterness and malty bread. Mouthfeel is nice and not too watery. Well done!

Bottle, can’t remember where from. Dark brown/black colour with huge golden bubbly head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate sweetness, bit of vanilla, bit of smoke too. Taste is good, quite spiky, lots of roast again, bit of bitterness, coffee maybe, less sweetness, but the vanilla is still there at the finish. The brown sugar is there too, but not in your face. Less sweet than I thought it would be from the name, but there is a lingering creaminess to it. Pretty nice, and have to say I seem to like most of the Sankt Gallen sweets beers.

Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Unclear dark brown with a lasting beige head. Aroma is dry, malty, green apples and chocolate. Flavor is medium sweet and light acidic. Dry and light acidic finish. 111013
