Bottle. Pours clear black with a medium, fizzy tan head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is chocolate and roast malt with dark fruits and earthy hops. Draught at Beechwood BBQ Seal Beach. Deep, dark mahogany with thin head over only half of the top but thorough lacing anywhere the beer touches. Aroma is funky bacteria and oatmeal cookie. Taste is mildly sweet followed by definitely bitter finish. Palate is much like Coca Cola but of course not that explosive in the middle but still lively yet softening. Overall OK but too much funk and not enough subtle oatmeal experience.

Bomber. Poured a healthy shade of deep brown with way too much deep tan head going on. The aroma picked up semi-sweet chocolate and rolled oats, with a detergenty character laced throughout.. warm molasses filled the back of the nose.. a bit airy and seemed a touch off. The flavor found molasses and burnt cocoa at the core, with odd, almost metallic, almost sour, kinda detergenty stuff laced throughout, and heavy roast on the edges.. finished dry and grainy, with more of the odd stuff. Medium-bodied and too carbonated on the palate.. the carbo hurt the assumed creaminess.. this seemed like it may have been infected, and I’d gladly try it again. burg326 (5482) - Florida, USA - JUL 3, 2011

Pours near black with a single-finger tan head. Good retention and some spotty lacing. Thin cap throughout. The nose brings forward some good roast and chocolate, tending toward the roast. The flavor is quite roasty with some espresso and chocolate behind. Mouthfeel takes a turn for the worse, as it’s a bit thin and really harsh with an acrid roast character that is quite dry. Hurts the flavor as well. Okay, though I wouldn’t seek this out again.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2011 Thanks to Homerwantsbeer for sharing a bottle. Pours inky black with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate and roasted malt. Medium, dry body with flavors of charred malt, roasty coffee and hops. The finish is roasty with a coffee aftertaste. Above average overall.
