COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Santa Cruz Ale Works Hefeweizen This blonde colored ale has its roots firmly planted in Germany but has adapted well to suit the taste of the American public. By nature it is unfiltered as Hefeweizen means wheat beer with yeast in German. Unlike our Bavarian counterparts, this wheat beer does not have the same banana and clove undertones or esters. These flavors are typically formed during fermentation are not the result of adding spices or fruit flavorings. Our hefe starts off with a nice, balanced wheat malt profile and then finishes off with a light lemon/orange citrus essence. Approx 5.3% Alc./Vol.

Good hefe, although it lacks much banana or clove character. Very refreshing and tasty, though.

Fruity with a prominent lemon undertone. Tangy with a quick finish. Good for a summer day. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap in Mountain View. Not great. Over fizzy, not much flavour. Not very wheaty.

Bottle:   Pale caramel, cloudy, dirty, large frothy off-white head, decent lacing.   Fairly decent wheaty aroma, soft sweetness, a little bready.   Bright wheatiness on the tongue.   Fairly hefty, which is a nice change of pace.   Subtle citrus flair.   Not half bad for an American version.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Feels more wheaty than most other examples.   Finish is a little dry.   Wished it had a subtle spiciness to it, but it doesn’t.   Not half bad.

Draft. An unclear golden beer with an orangey head. The aroma has notes of yeast and wheat. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, yeast, and wheat, leading to a dry wheaty finish.

On tap at Hyatt Vineyard Creek. Yellow colour with an off-white head, some lace. Easy mouthfeel, bulked up by caramel, although felt like gelatin. Some spices and wheat in aroma, though only a bit. Decent drinking beer,a little lemon citrus and hops, although on weak side for the style.

drank from a 22 oz. It wasn’t one of my favorite but it was decent. It was blonde in color.

Sampler at the brewery. Pours a thin head over a pale yellow (SRM 3) cloudy body.......nose is spice ?allspice, citrus (lemon, orange)......taste has a tiny bit of clove, some lemon with a slightly bitter finish....Mouth feel is light, carbonation low. This is a fairly typical Hefeweizen, but has a great deal more nose and flavor than most American Wheat Ales. Tasting of 10/09/09.
