COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Santa Cruz Ale Works Hefeweizen This blonde colored ale has its roots firmly planted in Germany but has adapted well to suit the taste of the American public. By nature it is unfiltered as Hefeweizen means wheat beer with yeast in German. Unlike our Bavarian counterparts, this wheat beer does not have the same banana and clove undertones or esters. These flavors are typically formed during fermentation are not the result of adding spices or fruit flavorings. Our hefe starts off with a nice, balanced wheat malt profile and then finishes off with a light lemon/orange citrus essence. Approx 5.3% Alc./Vol.

Good hefe, although it lacks much banana or clove character. Very refreshing and tasty, though.

Sampler at the brewery. Pours a thin head over a pale yellow (SRM 3) cloudy body.......nose is spice ?allspice, citrus (lemon, orange)......taste has a tiny bit of clove, some lemon with a slightly bitter finish....Mouth feel is light, carbonation low. This is a fairly typical Hefeweizen, but has a great deal more nose and flavor than most American Wheat Ales. Tasting of 10/09/09.

Fruity with a prominent lemon undertone. Tangy with a quick finish. Good for a summer day. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle:   Pale caramel, cloudy, dirty, large frothy off-white head, decent lacing.   Fairly decent wheaty aroma, soft sweetness, a little bready.   Bright wheatiness on the tongue.   Fairly hefty, which is a nice change of pace.   Subtle citrus flair.   Not half bad for an American version.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Feels more wheaty than most other examples.   Finish is a little dry.   Wished it had a subtle spiciness to it, but it doesn’t.   Not half bad.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2009 Bomber. Pours cloudy orange-yellow with a fluffy white head. Aroma is grainy wheat with a small hint of banana. Flavor is mainly grainy wheat also, with some yeast, a bit of that typical brewpub funkiness, a little more banana than the aroma, and small bit of spice. A bit odd for the style, and not overly flavorful, but not bad... once I get used to it the yeast and grainy malt are interacting pleasantly, and on the deck on a sunny Santa Cruz afternoon it’s nice.

Bottle. Hazy light amber beer with a nice whitsh head. Wheat, light spice aroma with banana and light lemon. Banana, clove, wheat/malt flavor. Medium body. Refreshing and easy drinking. Wheat, orange, spice, and banana linger.

drank from a 22 oz. It wasn’t one of my favorite but it was decent. It was blonde in color.

Very malty for a Hefe. Heavy on the acidic side in the nose. Carbonation is high, but small bubbles. No head at all, hazy light yellow color. Lots of malt.
