Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing tips its hat at the traditional style of "Winter Warmers" with this seasonal release. "Ginger" is a strong ale but light in color, with aromas of spiced oranges, a malty sweet body, and a gingery finish. We brew 200 gallon batches with pounds of organic fresh and dried ginger. The perfect ale to accompany the cold days of winter and you festive holiday feasts.

One of the best beers at the brewery. Pours a light yellow with a grey head. Smells amazing, of ginger and little fruity. Taste is gingery, a little spicy, and a fruity finish. Named appropriately. Had on tap at the brewery. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Amber-brown beer with a dark cream colored head. Sweet malt and caramel aroma with light spice. Sweet malt and caramel flavor with ginger and light fruit. Medium bodied. Light fruit and light earth lingers with sweet malt and light spice.

There’s no mistaking that this is a ginger beer; the ginger is easily the dominant characteristic of the flavor. Beyond the ginger, the malt base seems to be a standard pale ale, but it is low in hop flavor and bitterness because the ginger provides all the balance this beer needs, and then some. Some grassiness and graininess. Obviously a lot of ginger in the nose, but also hay and citrus. Body and carbonation are medium, and the ginger provides substantial stimulation for the palate. Dark-golden in color, very hazy in appearance, with a small, off-white head. If you like ginger beers that aren’t shy on the ginger, this beer is aimed for you, but I prefer a bit more subtlety.

22oz bottle. I’m a big fan of ginger and beer (not drunk redheads though). This offered potential - but was overall a bit poorly mixed. Half decent aroma, taste was malt/ginger in an unpalatable blend with poor followup.

Poured from 22oz., cloudy amber-orange with medium off-white head. Nose was ginger and citrus, with a little melon, becoming stronger as it warmed up. Taste was like a spicy, sweet ginger ale that had ample carbonation. Not what I’d refer to as a "winter warmer", but kind of interesting.

22oz bottle. Hazy gold with a frothy medium sized white head that leaves patchy lace. The aroma has lots of fresh ginger, with some citrus and sweet bread. Almost reminds me of ginger kombucha, and I like it. The flavor has lots of ginger, but has a nice malt sweetness to temper the spiciness. Finishes with a little herbal biterness in addition to the ginger spice. Malt is pretty innocuous compared to the ginger, and just lets it ride. Medium-light body with spritzy carbonation. This would honestly make a better summer beer as the ginger is refreshing, and the malt is light and dry enough to be very drinkable. Not really a winter warmer, but a nice beer that shows that these guys can brew something interesting.

22oz bottle, sample from the brewer. Pours a bright and glowing peach / orange color with a small off white ring. Nose of orange peel, some sweet malt and a touch of ginger. Flavor is much of the same with the finish being quite sweet and a little under carbonated.
