COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What happens when you take our legendary Chicken Killer Barley Wine and let it take a long nap in a bourbon barrel? It turns into the palate-blowing liquid you hold in your hand. Our Kickin’ Chicken Bourbon-Barrel Aged Barley Wine uses twice the ingredients of our other beers, but we extract only half the usual amount of liquid from them. Then it’s barrel aged for 9 months. The result is a potent, smooth and flavorful concoction with bourbon-like undertones of vanilla and caramel. Know what it’s like to be kicked in the mouth by a chicken? You’re about to find out.

brokensail (16689) - Dublin, California, USA - APR 3, 2012
The pour is a light amber color with minimal head formation. Starts off with lots of bourbon and vanilla notes. There’s a hint of oxidation in there too. Quite a nice fruit quality to this: raisin, plum, and grape. Plenty of caramel and toffee of course, too. The flavor has a nice touch of bourbon and vanilla long with a bit of oak. Not quite as much fruit, but still good. Caramel, toffee, and a bit of brown sugar are also present. Solid all around barleywine.

blipp (9919) - La Mesa, California, USA - APR 22, 2012
Bottle. Pours amber with a beige head. Bourbony sweet aroma, with sweet caramel malt and light toasty notes. The flavor has bourbon, sweet caramel malts, and low bitterness. Decent.

Brouwerij (959) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 14, 2013
Bottle. Pours an opaque orange-brown with minimal head and no lacing. Aroma is bourbon, alcohol, oak. Flavor is fruity up front fading quickly into bourbon, oak, and alcohol tones. Hints of vanilla oakiness. Bourbon is undoubtedly the dominant character of this beer. Reminds me of bourbon barrel Olde Skiddy. Soft carbonation, medium body, and smooth texture. A very boozy bourbon barrel aged barleywine. Exactly what I was hoping for.

Bottle at Yespr’s - Thanks. Cloudy amber/brown - white head. Licorice, barley, roasted, spicy notes, bourbon, vanilla, amber malts, raisins, sweetness, a bit too much bourbon to my taste.

22oz bomber. 35th birthday present from Elise. Thick, unfiltered viscous brown amber. Oily thin head. Rich and boozy, thick, sweet bourbon caramel tones. Tastes like they added bourbon to a beer barrel. Intense. Firmly planted in the Barley Wine style, which I fully appreciate, but also fully showing off rich barrel tones.
