Thick tan head, black viscous fluid.
Nose of soy sauce, smoke, oak and chocolate.
Sweet with hop bitterness on the attack, with espresso bean, vanilla, dark chocolate and ash. JohnSluis (4) - New Mexico, USA - JAN 21, 2011 does not count
Enjoyed from a tulip glass. Dark as night with a good half inch brownish head. My nose is picking up chocolate, espresso, and some smokeyness to it. Amazing. It still has a touch of hops initially and then evens out to a lot of chocolate and some espresso on the tongue. A very pleasant amount of carbonation. It feels like a cool shot of creamy espresso rolling through my mouth. Very easy drinker. Let’s just say it left me wanting more. It’s been a while since the last time I had this and it really seems to be aging really well. LamarBurton (376) - California, USA - DEC 6, 2010
From bottle at tasting (Levi’s).Notes. Pours black, with a very slight light tan head rising, very minimal lacing. Aroma is tobacco and some dark fruit. Taste is complex: caramel, burnt malt, coco and coffee. Some booze on the exhale. Mouthfeel is chewy, but slightly mouth coating and syrupy. bigbish (712) - California, USA - SEP 22, 2010
Got hooked up with bottle 129 by a friend. Boy am I glad. This is probably the best porter I’ve ever head. The aroma is very strong. Very sweet, complex aroma. The flavor is powerful. Caramel, some hints of dark fruits, roasted notes, and a perfect balance of bitterness. This is an amazing beer. Skyview (6055) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - SEP 6, 2010
From 750 ml bottle (1932 out of 3708) shared by MatSciGuy, pours an opaque dark brown colored brew with a thick tan head that slowly dissipates to a thin ring and some spotty lacing. Aroma of black and chocolate malt, a hint of bourbon, some light licorice and a touch of vanilla. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of dark chocolate malt, brown sugar, a hint of smoke and some bourbon. Finish is a tad alcoholic and warm. Allow this one to settle down in a couple years.

Pours deep black, aroma of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, chocolate. Taste is nice chocolate up front, some smoke and bourbon in the middle, leading into sweet vanilla and more chocolate in the finish. A bit boozy, but overall a really nice imperial porter. fata2683 (2176) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - AUG 8, 2010
bottle thanks to Baker! Pours pitch black with a medium tan head. Aroma is very barrel forward, earthy wood notes and brown sugar. Flavor is mild licorice, roasted malts, burnt sugar and vanilla with lingering oak notes in the finish. This is a great beer. DalzAle (2037) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - AUG 7, 2010
Bottle shared by MatSciGuy (Thanks Levi!) Thin dark black pour, little bit of carbonation and great aroma of boozy chocolate, caramel. Flavor was bitter dark chocolate, little bit of smoke and very sweet. Finish was hot, but I bet this would be better with a year or two on it. Definitely worth a try if you like big sweeter stouts/porters(like I do.) drowland (8758) - Georgia, USA - JUL 7, 2010
6/26/10. Sampled at the Tally Tasting 2010 courtesy fata2683. A bit of soy lingering in there, but otherwise a nice big porter. Yum. hopscotch (11113) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUN 30, 2010
UPDATED: JUL 1, 2010 Bottle… Tally Tasting ‘10… Pours black with a small, creamy, well-tanned head. Good retention. The bouquet provides vinous, smoky and woody notes - not a whole lot of roastiness or chocolate. Full-bodied with a buttery mouthfeel and jazzy carbonation. Nutty, sweet, tangy flavor up front; good bitterness on the backside. Finishes carbonaceous, bitter and tangy. Bottle courtesy of fata2683!
