A trademark beer of the Santa Fe Brewing Company’s master brewer, Ty Levis, the State Pen Porter has every reason to be one of his favorites. It is flavorful, swimming with notes of nuts and chocolate; it is drinkable, so drinkable that it is almost as if pint after pint were drinking itself; and it packs a punch, so much so that its drinkability rapidly gives way to a euphoric intoxication that only a true Porter drinker can understand. Malts: 2-row pale, 30-37 l. Crystal, 70-80 l. Crystal, Chocolate. Hops: Cluster, Cascade, Willamette.

Pours oily and dark, almost opaque, with moderate carbonation yet nothing for a head. Aroma is soy, molassis. Taste is tangy, slightly sour. Roasted malts trying desperately to be noticed. Possible oxidation. Very light chocolate, cherry. Moderate mouthfeel.

Andrew196 (1902) - Katy, Texas, USA - JAN 26, 2017
A good looking beer - pours black with a well contrasted white head. Aroma is nutty, coffee, molasses. A bit too thin and boring on the tongue.... More roasted malts, coffee, a little cocoa, not bad but a bit too much like the best beer at a bad brew pub.

Can: Pours almost black with a chunky tan head. Chocolate, coffee, vanilla aroma. Taste is rich, dark chocolate malt, overcooked coffee, cream. A really solid, sweet porter that finishes with a nice roasty bittering.
