Arrives from the tap with a clear, dark amber hue. The head starts out at a ¼-finger thick and is a nicely amber tinged, dark tan color. The aroma smells of caramelized fruit, perhaps a hint of spice (that leans towards rounded all-spice, perhaps a hint of ginger & nutmeg and a suggestion somehow of cinnamon) and lots of toasted / caramelized grain. As the beer warms up a touch more ginger aromatics start to come out.
The beer has a fullness to it that is offset by a bit too fizzy carbonation. The beer has a caramelized sweetness to it, without being cloying, and this accentuates notes of raisins and perhaps a touch of prunes. The finish has notes of lingering toasted brown bread notes, and a general spiciness that hints at nutmeg and ginger. As the beer warms up a ginger flavor becomes more noticeable and even fairly distinct. Despite the soft sweetness up front, this beer finishes fairly dry as both the toasty malt and the spiciness helps to dry this beer out.
I really like how subtle the spices are here; I can’t honestly say that they are a positive addition to this beer, but if the malt / caramel had a bit more presence then it could have been. In the end this is pretty nice, I get the sense that it would even be a touch better if it was served warmer and a bit less carbonated.

Draft at the Mellow Mushroom. Pour was full brown with some copper hues, ok initial off white head, near zero lacing. Aroma of christmas spiced bread, caramel, mint. Flavor followed with clear spices of cardamom, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon. Unfortunately, a vegetal under and aftertaste that was a put off. Caramel malts detectable for sure along with Munich malts. Mouthfeel pretty full for the style, a pretty spiced up brew, interesting, even if not my thing.

At Mellow Mushroom. Dark brown, off white head. Lightly spiced aroma, toffee, doughy notes. Flavor is sweet malt up front, spice, some faint hops. Enjoyable but not spectacular.
