4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2012 From memory off tap at brewery. Roasted malt overtones of chocolate and roasted coffee, with tart nuances of a sour beer. Medium-light bodied. Well made and enjoyable. Retried a few more times throughout the month, noticing less sour profile and simply more roasted malt body... Which I enjoyed more. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

Draft pour on tap at the brewery (Capitola, CA). Pours a darker deep brownish hue, a firmer dark middle shows a touch of light on the edges. Frothy big tarnish head is cakey, large, robust. A nice potent lacing throughout. Aromas are chocolatey, some caramel, cocoa, biscuits, toast. A bit dry, earthy, Tootsie Roll jabs. Initial is medium bodied, a bit of girth with some sweetness, darker depth, toasty and cocoa dusting. A bit bitter, semi sweet and roasty as you turn the corner quite quickly. Carmelized, toasty, dry, bitter and lingering. Enough body to remind you it’s a Porter with a firmly dry, bitter, roasty backend. Cacao, coffee, toasty biscuits, earth. Pretty pour, by the book nose, good flavors, and especially pleasant backend and finish. RRistow12 (929) - Lewis Center, Ohio, USA - JUL 26, 2016
Tasted from draft. Pours black with off white head. Aroma is coffee, vanilla, chocolate. Flavor is moderately bitter. Flavors similar to aroma with a nice rye flavor as well. Very well done Porter but their vanilla Joe is better.
