On tap at Bistro BA Fest poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of grape, tobacco, vanilla, toffee, light roastiness and light oak. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, toffee, tobaccvo, fruittiness, oak and light vinous notes with a crisp dry lingering tobacco finish.

Bottle. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of dark fruits, chocolate, roasted malts and tobacco. The taste was similar to the aroma with more chocolate, roasted malts, tobacco and some tartness. Tasty.

Pours brown with a small head. The aroma had dark roasty malt, berries, sourness and mild funk. It has a pretty light body with semi sharp carbonation. The taste has spice, sourness, berries, chocolate, vinegar and a bite on the finish.

Sampled at Gregwilsonstl’s tasting. Dark brown with amber highlights. A beige layer of foam. I get dark fruit in the nose with tobacco. Funk, too. Funk and a little vinegar. Some chocolate and a little roast. Interesting variation. Much better than the mix sounds like it would be.

Pours a hazy golden brown from the bomber with thin ring of bubbly tan head. Aroma of big lactic acidity and dark fruit notes with a hint of must. Taste is more funky, but still really acidic, nice fruitiness behind. A really nice American sour.

From notes. This was enjoyed at Jolly Pumpkin on October 1 for Zwanze Day 2016! The pour is a medium to dark brown with a light khaki head that fades off pretty quickly. This looks horrible for a sour. The aroma is really interesting. There is a roasted malt, a light chocolate, a bitter tobacco leaf, and then a light funkiness tries to creep in before it tarts up. This is all over the place, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. The flavor is a tart porter with a little spiciness to it, but then it adds in some dried leaves, and a bit of barrel. It’s really interesting, but messy. The mouth feel is thicker and brightly carbonated with a strange tobacco and tart chocolate on the finish. This one confuses me.

750 mL bottle. Originally reviewed 9/23/2013. Black body with some reddish transparency. Big khaki head. Wispy surface with a medium collar. Impressive aroma. Chocolate and coffee roast. Acidic. Fruity. Kinda like cherries and stone fruit. I know that’s redundant but go with it. Vanilla. Tastes a little nutty. Chocolate. Lemony tartness. Masks the remaining flavors. Medium high carbonation. Medium body. I like this as much as I could have enjoyed a sour stoutish beer.

Sample at Zwanze Day 2016 at Jolly Pumpkin. Aroma is complex, roast, tobacco, chocolate, leather, tart, funky, different. Appearance is brown, light brown head, mostly clear. Taste is tart, funky, tobacco, chocolate, roasted malt, barnyard, very complex. Mouthfeel is medium body, light crisp carbonation, chocolate tobacco tart aftertaste. Overall, very strange but pretty tasty.
