COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This porter is roasty American style robust porter. Medium bodied finish with a moderate English hop finish so as not to add too much bitterness to the roasted malt character.

For a subtle twist, try a Porter blend, with a quarter to half pint of Bramble on, topped off with Coal Porter.

Salem breweries are competing for the least creative beer names, I see. Dark brown, roasty, toasty palate. Chocolatey, a balanced, straightforward no bullshit porter.

Santiam’s Coal Porter, not to be confused with Cole Porter, who my girlfriend had no idea was a real person.

Sample at the tap room. Dark brown color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily to a film. Small patches of lace. Smoked malt, coffee and hops in the nose. Medium body with a roasty malt and coffee character, with some earthy hops in the background. The finish is mildly smoky with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Cask at the brewery tap-room. Imperial pint.

absolutely black beer with a lovely creamy cask head!
Roasty , toasty malt aromas..with some cream in the back.
Taste the same as the aromas..bitter black chocolate and molasses with a dollop of double cream coffee...
Great smooth mouth feel..to be expected with cask.
A nice smooth porter and very drinkable..

On cask at 3 mugs. Pours a pitch black color with a tiny white head. A smoky roasted nose, licorice. The flavor is somewhat sour roasted metallic malts, dark fruit, plum. OK. Might be suffering from an infection.

Toasty malts, pretty bitter, but that's to be expected. Malty, nutty roasty
