At a Julios tasting, fantastic mead. Huge berry flavor, natural blackberry sweetness with a honey background
Pours deep copper into a snifter. Still. Hot honey and blackberry aromas. Hot oak and yeast upfront turning to sweet berry in the warming finish. Westmeister (2129) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - DEC 11, 2014
Ale Alpharetta. Hamp you dog. I don’t have a long rap on mead tasting, but this was one was complex, andfully enjoyable. Big blackberry, strong barrel characteristics, llight maple and a bit of a spicy/big sweet finish. Cybercat (5965) - Georgia, USA - NOV 20, 2014
Pours a beautiful ruby-mahogany, calling for a sip. Ueasty aroma has a definite note of blackberry. I LOVE blackberries! And yes, a note of maple syrup. (Go Maple Leafs!) flavor has delightful blackberry and maple flavors, quite sweet but not yucky-sweet. Smooth, fairly firm texture leaves a fruity and slightly sour finish. I feel the need - the need for MEAD! MeadMe (1672) - Fishhawk, Florida, USA - JUN 6, 2013
Pours brilliant red. Aromas of an oaky raspberry bramble patch. Flavor is heavy on the oak up front, tannic with red wine like notes. Strong raspberry flavor. Jammy and red wine like. Very very impressed by this one. 3fourths (9351) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAR 15, 2013
another untraditional mead, this one treated in toasted oak and fermented with blackberries and maple syrup. dull brick red body with slow-crawling ropes. oak in the nose is extremely heavy and dominates the fainter honey and maple character. there’s a nice phenolic, nutty, woody and toasty quality, but the hot alcohols and excess oak keep this one from having any balance. thankfully the flavor is much more enjoyable than the nose, much cleaner, less phenolic, and provides a better taste of the maple syrup addition. still, strong oak tannins pretty much dominate here, and a thick, syrupy and oily body seems a little too much to handle.

Saphouse can really make some amazing meads. I dont claim to be a mead expert but man so much rich blackberry flavor and the barrel characteristic adds light roastyness. It reminds me of eating toast with blackberry jam. So good.
