Wheat malt, fine barley malt and select hops create this "smooth as silk" flavor.

Can. Clear gold body, low head. Gentle malt aroma, some biscuit. Plain taste, barley and grassy, light citrus. The smooth body is apparent but not exactly suitable for a lager. Hops are subdued, needs to finish drier.

Light wheat forward nose with the regular malt flavors of yebisu. Very creamy and smooth on the palate. Not grainy at all. A little bit of grassy hops on the finish. Not terribly interesting though.

35cl can from a nearby Family Mart in Tokyo. Pours clear golden with a white head. Mild wheaty and grainy aroma with fruity notes and hints of banana. Moderate sweet with a hint of acidity and fairly low flavour intensity, but still some wheaty notes. Easy to drink and certainly not the worst you can get from a can here. Refreshing enough.

Light malty aroma. The taste is the same. Perhaps too bitter. Minimal bitterness that disappears quickly. Not good in the long run. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Available almost anywhere in Japan, this is probably the cheapest wheat beer you can get your hands on and worth a spin.

350 ml can bought at YATA in Grand Century Place, Mong Kok.

Clear golden yellow colour; Half finger head with white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing with notable small carbonation; Quite fragrant aroma of malt, with light wheaty tartness, fairly light floral, white bread, light dough, yeast and faint grass; Minimal sweet taste of light malt, with thin floral, faint molasses, light bread, faint booze, shades of lemon and very low bitter grassy hops; Light body. Thin palate; Mouth feel is like the Yebisu proper got thinned by wheat malt: maltyness is almost like a Euro Pale Lager, notable wheaty taste with hint of tartness. No adjunct, no sweetness, with a bit of boozey hint reminesant of a very thin Maerzen. Thin bread and hops, no silky feel at all. Clean taste but booooring… Hoppiness is very light floral and faint lemony grassy nose and taste. Bitterness is muted with barely detectable bitterness for wheaty thin booey non-finish; Slightly dry after taste. Quite easy to mouth.

Comments: I don’t know who comes up with the idea of adding wheat malt to an otherwise malty lager will equate silky smoothness. In this case, it is neither. Thin like a macro with slightly off-target bready boozy hint. Given Yebisu’s up-market image among Sapporo beers, this one aimed high but shot low. Not pleasing at all.

Can @ Scooper Tasting in Ulfborg. Pours clear pale yellow with airy white head. Clear aroma of yeast and malt, with notes of hops. Bitter, hoppy flavour, with sourish, grainy and ricey notes. Bitter aftertaste. Watery. Nothing special.
