bottle thanks to cheap (thanks buddy). Another pleasant surprise, pours a dark black. aroma of slight chocolate and coffee. balanced off slightly, some bitterness and malt, (little hops flavor) thin feel, lacking a bite from a porter. But, easy to drink and pleasant. ganache (5852) - New Jersey, USA - JAN 21, 2014
Bottle, BB Mar 31, 2014. Nose is heavily roasty with some chocolate, ash and even some tar in their, really nice and sultry. Even has some light hops for accent. Deep brown-black pour with a light brown head. Taste with nice ash and wood, roast backed off a ton but the small level of fruitiness allowed to rise. Some coffee still but faint, and chocolate. Low bitterness with a touch of astringency that is really only noticeable in the long finish. Clean with a clean yeast, the big problem is that the body is very watery and somewhat flat; there are style arguments to be made, I suppose, but even a little more body/malt feel would go a long way. An otherwise fine porter! Brewbie (479) - New York, USA - JAN 20, 2014
12oz bottle, black with fluffy brown head. cocoa aroma. light roast taste smooth chocolate. burnt roast finish. shrubber85 (11324) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - JAN 19, 2014
Bottle. Milk chocolate malt and light ash aroma. Dark brown with moderate tan head. Dark chocolate malt and mildly bitter herbal flavor. Pretty good. Scrapersnbeer (1532) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 12, 2014
Roasted coffee and fudge aroma. Brown to nearly black in color. Black coffee bitterness, looks like they came up short with the sweetness here, as the malt is strictly burnt. The usual Achilles’ heel for Saranac is in the body, and this one is no exception as it is to thin. Otherwise a solid offering.

12 oz bottle from the holiday sampler case. Pours with a medium head and a nice dark malty color. Medium to medium heavy with a nice finish. For the relative cost of the case, this is well worth the investment. One of Saranac’s better brews. Itzjerm (2794) - Taft, Tennessee, USA - JAN 10, 2014
UPDATED: NOV 23, 2014 A bit to bitter with slight astringent flavor and malt astringent aroma. Thin to medium body. Not to good honestly. Aroma of bottle also. Tmoney99 (14365) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 9, 2014
Bottle. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium dark sweet flavor with medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Soft beer. alexsdad06 (10268) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 5, 2014
12 oz bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours brown to dark brown with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, dark chocolate, earth, so me ash. Body is a bit thin, otherwise not bad. GnarlyGnome (770) - Fairfield, Ohio, USA - JAN 4, 2014
Bottle: dark chocolate brown with a tan head. Aroma is sweet, chocolate... Roastiness. Flavor is smooth roasted chocolates. Bitterness is slightly off putting for some reason. Not bad, though.
