Pours dark brown with some lacing tan head. Aroma is enticing with notes of chocolate and coffee and a bit of hops. The taste is pretty sweet but with a dry hoppy finish. Overall I really enjoyed this beer favorite of the pack.

Had a 12oz glass bottle the first sip was a bit overwhelming but developed into an enjoyable beer

BlackHaddock (7956) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - DEC 12, 2017
12 oz bottle from a 12 Beers of Winter pack (Saranac labelled beers, four types, three each). This bottle was BB 31st Mar 2018. It was poured into a lovely 'Kasteel' stemmed glass on 12th Dec 2017 while I was on holiday at my daughters place in California. Pack of beer bought at a Bev-Mo store. Very dark body, ruby hue to the edges when held up to a bright light, light tanned foaming head. Chocolate nose with a roasted/toasted light burnt ester or two. Taste again leads with a chocolate feel, less burnt notes in the flavour compared to the aroma. Some ground coffee in the mix alongside some unsweetened vanilla traces. Easy drinking Porter with enough going on to keep me interested until the end. Nothing exciting or wonderful about it, just a decent Porter with a sensible ABV.

12 oz bottle. Roasted flavor. Taste of roasted coffee and chocolate flavors from the malt balanced with a slight hop bitterness. A little creamy.

From the "Saranac Twelve Beers Of Christmas" 2015 variety 12 pack that my galpal Nancy gifted me with... this is a decent, sessionable porter, with a nice coffee/mocha bitterness. Could be a bit longer lasting on the palate, though.

Bottle from ’Beers of Winter" pack into pint glass; deep, near opaque, dark ruby brown color with creamy beige head. Aroma notes of roast malt sweetness, dark roast coffee, bakers chocolate and tad caramel. Taste adds more espresso coffee notes, dark chocolate, ash and earthy bitterness. Light-medium body, moderate carbonation, tad chalky with coffee roast finish. Overall a solid textbook porter, only real knock is the palate.

appearance: dark brown, short creamy light tan head. aroma: suitably roasty, with dark chocolate and coffee, maybe a bit of vanilla. taste: coffee first, then a bit of dark chocolate and finally a dose of pine. finish: dry and roasty, smooth and with a bit of those piney hops and dark chocolate lingering. notes: A perfectly fine porter for an unseasonably warm November day. Good palate, balanced flavors.

Dogbrick (14293) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 31, 2015
Dark brown color with a medium frothy beige head that diminishes quickly to a film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and slight hops. Light body with flavors of chocolate malt, mild coffee and a touch of hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Pretty generic porter, strongish coffee notes are dominant, some floral hop notes as well.

Beerathon (1680) - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 12, 2015
Surprising hop presence in this, almost plays off like a black IPA. Nice roasted malt flavors of coffee and bitter chocolate. Tastes better than it smells. Cola-esque in appearance, with thin bubbly head.

This is a wonderful dark chocolate porter with a tan head that is smooth with an aftertaste.
