COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed to pay homage to our founder’s homeland, our German-Style Schwarzbier is brewed true to style with a deliciously sweet malty flavor. It may be dark in color but it’s not heavy on roasted flavor like most people expect in a dark beer. BEER STYLE: Bavarian Black Beer MALT: Two-Row, Caramel HOPS: Mt Hood, Hallertauer ABV: 5.3%

Nice color with a long lasting head. The taste and mouth feel were a bit thin but not bad overall.

Blown color with just a touch of redness. Bone tan head. Mild hops and malt aroma. A dry caramel flavor with a touch of acidity. Dry finish toasty finish.

Coca-cola coloured, beige firm head. Hoppy aroma, cellar and soil tones. Bitter and sweet not much else

Outstanding coffee aroma with just as good a flavor. A bit thin for the flavor, but i think it’s for the better. Not to filling but a solid body. Feels like i’m in a cool damp...black forest.

Sweet roasted malt aroma, but the flavor lacked the promise that the aroma gave. Light body, with just a hint of hops crispness. Easy drinking.

Reminded me of a black bavarian style beer. A lot of flavor and kick. Pretty smooth though.

Very rich garnet color with a pronounced caramel malt aroma. Medium smooth body with a bit of bitterness. Not as much sweetness as anticipated, but still good.

Nice ruby-black hue. Tan head dissipates quickly. Caramel malt aroma. The sweetness is very welcome, and the hoppy finish is superb. I definately enjoy this schwarzbier, a very good rendition from a big brewery. One of Saranac’s best brews.

My personal favorite in the Saranac line up. Odd moose brown to black color. solid caramel malt taste, but does lack a significant hop presence. I would like to see a little more chocolate character as well. A great beer with steaks!

Thought it was a brown when I first had it, but it was a little darker. They are sure right about the caramel malts in this one, and they are all over the place in abundance. It’s the abundance which is the problem. The aftertaste was not very nice at all, as it left a stickiness that was hard to get rid of. Body was on the thin side but ok, and ther was a very small amount of hops flavor or characteristics. I am not too familiar with this style, but I hope this beer is not representatvie of it.
