Brewed to pay homage to our founder’s homeland, our German-Style Schwarzbier is brewed true to style with a deliciously sweet malty flavor. It may be dark in color but it’s not heavy on roasted flavor like most people expect in a dark beer. BEER STYLE: Bavarian Black Beer MALT: Two-Row, Caramel HOPS: Mt Hood, Hallertauer ABV: 5.3%

Thought it was a brown when I first had it, but it was a little darker. They are sure right about the caramel malts in this one, and they are all over the place in abundance. It’s the abundance which is the problem. The aftertaste was not very nice at all, as it left a stickiness that was hard to get rid of. Body was on the thin side but ok, and ther was a very small amount of hops flavor or characteristics. I am not too familiar with this style, but I hope this beer is not representatvie of it.

It isn’t bad. There is a fakeness in the taste, but the finish is nice. ..

similar color to the B&T...dark, but not opaque. malty aroma..detected a tiny tiny bit of bitterness in the aftertaste

Brownish red body with a dirth of bubbles and a tannish head that disappears quickly. lots of caramel malt in the aroma. Slight chocolate flavor that tends to finish almost vinegary. Was hoping for something a little more robust, didn’t get it. C’est la vie.

Very nice Dark German style beer with clean flavor with wine style hints of fruit and malt. Very good in the bottle and on tap a well.

I quite liked this one’s creaminess. It’s one of my favorite schwarzbiers because it’s light and smooth. It has a hint of sweetness that’s lacking from Asahi Black. Would be better with less carbonation.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2005 had this is the bottle. Very malty with some hop presence. Must have not poured it right, as I got almost no head. have to try again. Bartender served it to me ice cold, so i dont think that helped. Pleasant drinking beer though. Rerate 2004 bottle. Awful. Watery, one flavor of light choco-caramel. Weak and boring. Drainpour. This is not a dunkel, or schwarzbier or bock or anything. It’s a crappy, cheaply made brown ale.
