Smells like caramel, strongly. Nice dark appearance, with an appealing cremy head and convincing lacing. The roasty malt taste befitting a porter is there but strange. A hint of caramle but also a strange metallic taste that reminds me of blood. brownaler (742) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - NOV 29, 2003
Pitch black appearence with a small white head. I can't really taste any of the porter quaities of this beer and I do not like the caramel flavoring in this beer. It is too strong and fake. 3fourths (9367) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 23, 2003
Smells a little fishy, with some yeast and wet grass. There is the caramel hint in the aroma as well, but it is more evident in the flavor. After reading what austinpowers said about adding real caramel, it makes sense; I could definitly pick up the flavor, though it almost tasted artificial, separate from the flavor of the beer. This usually happens with fruit or spiced beers, but I picked it up here. Overall it's smooth, quite sweet with caramel candy flavors, chocolate residue aftertaste, though a little too thin and sweet. I've only had one other "caramel porter", by Pocono, and they are both good but quite different. I think it's a good idea, but hard to perfect. Thanks austinpowers. beastdog75 (364) - Brick, New Jersey, USA - NOV 6, 2003
Good if you like caramel, bad if you don't. Caramel almost all the way, but there is an actual hop bitterness in the finish. I like caramel, hence the decent grade, but definitely not for everyone.

Bottle. This beer has the most intense caramel flavor I've ever had in a beer. I would have liked a little chocolate or coffee flavor added, however this was absolutely delicious as it stands. The nose and flavor are unique and delicious. Satisfies your sweet tooth and your thirst at the same time, while giving you the added benefit of some alcohol. What a terrific beer!

Dark with a huge frothy head, rich carmel aroma. Taste is sweet, carmel, and buttery. Tastes almost like butterscotch. The carmel is strong, but I can live with it, but the creamy butterness just throws it over the top. Not a very good beer. aaronh (201) - McMurray, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 28, 2003
A mahogany red beer with amber highlights that pours with a one-inch tan head. The head slowly fades to just a thin ring of foam. The aroma is pretty much all caramel, maybe a hint of hops underneath the overly strong caramel aroma that was apparent while pouring the beer. The taste has some chocolate notes, strong caramel notes, and a bit of peppery spice. Not much bitterness in the finish. gsmitty80 (2130) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 23, 2003
MMM....something different for a change. I like my porters and i was hesistant on what to expect but this beer has just the right tones of coffee and caramel to pull it off. ChazyRPh (583) - Chazy, New York, USA - SEP 9, 2003
Gorgeous pouring porter, with a nice fluffy head that leaves very nice lacing. This beer smells buttery, that is the best word to describe it. I can sense sweetness on the nose also. Smooth, sweet and buttery. A hint of bitterness to finish also some burnt caramel finish. A nice beer, but really cannot drink more than 1 or 2. Beautiful looking and smelling beer. Nice and dark with a rich caramel aroma. Flavor is overwhelmed by caramel, so much so that you can barely tell you're drinking a porter. Way out of balance. If you get the 6 pack make sure you have 5 friends because drinking more than one is a chore.
