Saranac Caramel Porter is a robust, flavorful porter reminiscent of a by-gone era. True to brewing tradition, we've used dark caramel malt as well as Fuggles & East Kent Goldings hops for a smooth, yet slightly bitter, roasted flavor. Look for hints of real caramel used in brewing this delicious brew. Enjoy.

Interesting combination of flavors, aroma is very nice.....it's seasonal so hard to find, but easy to drink, just not in quantity.

Creamy brown/tan head. Mahogeny hue. Malty sweet, nutty nose, caramel surprisingly coming through. Medium body. Creamy mouthfeel. Caramel flavor is interesting with a slight roastiness backing it also. The flavors are pretty well balanced and work well together. Finishes medium sweet. Nice change of pace brew.

crazyvin (2026) - New York, USA - MAY 27, 2003
great malty and sweet aroma. A dark brown body with a medium brown head the lasted half way through the glass. A fake caramel taste with no other taste in it what so ever.

Nice medium tan head. I found the caramel and vinous aromas right away. The body was a little thin. Drinkable, but a little sweeter than I'd like.

Dark red/brown, medium tan head. Strong caramel aroma with a little bit of red wine scent. Sweet caramel flavor, unbalanced. A bit too sweet for me. Thin body. Not big on this.

Aroma of delicious carmel, also smells like paint. Dark bron with a hint of red. Flavor is carmel and "thin" somewhat fake. Slight bitter finish as do most porters. Pretty good, but as with most "flavored beers" a bit much

Dorwart (2590) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - APR 5, 2003
Decent frothy head with nice lacing. Strong butterscotch/caramel aroma. Excellent dark ruby color. Flavor is very sweet with strong flavors of caramel and roasted grains. Finish is clean and slightly dry. A decent brew if you like caramel but not one that you could drink multiple bottles of.

ConiseurofBeer (242) - Downingtown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 21, 2003
Strong caramel scents in the nose and even stronger caramel flavors in the taste. I actually contemplated whether I was eating a caramel chew or if I was drinking a beer. The jury is still out on that one. A good dessert beer; I guess.

pauliefrog99 (302) - FLINT, Michigan, USA - MAR 18, 2003
Poured dark brown with small light brown head. Caramel and toffee aroma very strong. Sweet toffee caramel flavor.

freekyp (2257) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - MAR 6, 2003
UPDATED: JAN 17, 2008 Sweet and earthy with a pronounced caramel nose. A bit of dark malt porter character remains beneath the somewhat intrusive in-your-face caramel flavor. Nice dark brown with frothy head though.
