Delicious. Strong caramel flavor. In my opinion it is the best beer saranac brews. BeerHound53 (24) - USA - NOV 2, 2006
super great Caramel aroma, nice deep brown coloration. MMM sweet and Caramel, buttery, almost candy like. My favorite Saranac egrzelak99 (5) - Rochester, New York, USA - DEC 4, 2001 does not count
If you want a sweet beer with only a hint of bitterness this is the one. It’s full of caramel from the first scent to the aftertaste. This beer is like dessert. Raytailgater (105) - Rockledge, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 12, 2002
Good but a little to much caramel for my liking. TheBeerCollector (633) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - NOV 19, 2002
Bottle- In my opinion this is one of Saranac’s best beers. Nice sweet, complex flavor. Looks good and tastes good.

I loved this beer. Pours a very dark reddish black that you can see through if you hold it up to the light. Smell is exactly like caramel candy, and the taste is the same, with a slight bite at the end to remind you that it is a beer. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly carbonated. Id drink this beer anytime EnnuiDivine (23) - New Jersey, USA - DEC 18, 2007
Man, oh man, this is a tasty porter. More than just a hint of caramel with enough of a body to keep you from thinking you’re ingesting liquid candy. Got it in the Twelve Beers of Winter 12 pack, and it’s easily my favorite of the bunch. DerBiermeister (586) - Birmingham, Alabama, USA - APR 15, 2009
I expected this to be good, but really, this is over the top good. With a minimal, ever so slightly bitter aftertaste, the flavour and palate are heavy and thick and comforting. Beautiful beer and probably Saranac’s best. dankfor20 (193) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - DEC 5, 2002
What a porter the carmel definately shows through but not in an overpowering way. They need to make these for more than just the christmas sampler obguthr (6367) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - SEP 15, 2007
Toffee and caramel aroma. Clear brown pour with a medium, but lasting tan head. Hazelnut coffee taste. Thin mouthfeel. Butterscotch finish. I’m not crazy about butterscotch, but this tastes really good. I’d say there are probably adjuncts, but if this is natural it is truly spectacular. Way to go Saranac!
