Just recently found the notes on this brew.
I poured this into a pilsener.
The appearance was a hazy brown to almost black color topped with a decent one finger off white foamy head. The head ended up dieing about thirty seconds after it was poured and it left a light soapy looking lacing.
The smell was mainly dark roasted chocolate and a light caramel maltiness running in and out through the nose.
The taste was roasty and sweet to allow the chocolate and caramel create a decent smoothness running across the tastebuds.
On the palate, it sat fairly light and showed a pretty good sessionability about it.
Overall, I say this was a good chocolate lager that Saranac/FX Matt wanted to do. They hit exactly what they wanted. unclemattie (4358) - Georgia, USA - AUG 20, 2013
12oz bottle, Winter mix 2013. Light brown/orange color, light tan foam. Aroma of brown grains. Very thin. Toasted grains. Finished with unsweetened chocolate notes. It’s ok. (3795) ajnepple (6626) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 5, 2013
12 oz bottle from Supermarket Liquors. Amber colored and pretty clear with a sticky off-white head. The aroma is rich milk chocolate and caramel malts. Similar flavor with light spiced hops. Light soft body with a thin, semi-creamy feel and a sweet finish. It was alright. SamP01 (668) - New Jersey, USA - MAY 1, 2013
Bottle thanks Mike67. Poured a clear brown amber with a small beige head. Aroma and Taste is of mildly toasted barley, malt, some chocolate notes, mild bitterness. A medium body with moderate carbonation on the palate. The Finish is toasted grains some light chocolate flavor and mild bitterness. Seems a bit light on the chocolate flavor needs more chocolate. Overall an ok sessional brew. messinger91 (13) - Huntington, West Virginia, USA - APR 28, 2013
Pours dark with a tan head, but smells and tastes like just lager. No taste of chocolate whatsoever. Disappointing, but as just a lager it isn’t bad.

12 oz bottle. Pours copper with a 1/2" dense white head. Some lace. Aroma is roasted malt with a hint of powdered chocolate. Light, but sharp hop scent. Semi sweet taste with notes of hazelnut & mild chocolate. Palate is a bit on the light side with a dry finish. mensch (289) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - MAR 26, 2013
Strange fruity malt aroma. The flavor has some smooth cocoa and little else. No nasty lager flavors. Vapid finish. Hey, nice color. Doofgoblin (513) - Chevy Chase, Washington DC, USA - MAR 23, 2013
Not great and no chocolate aroma or taste. Not sure what is going on here. The aroma is faintly malty. Taste is one dimensional and finishes thin and unexciting. Pretty forgettable. Lightrider (344) - Bristol, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 17, 2013
Bottle into a goblet. Pour is a dark amber with a fine head. Aroma is that of malt with a lite chocolate. Taste is a nice dark malt with a light chocolate back up. Finish is a rounded malt sweetness. jefcon (1858) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - FEB 11, 2013
The highlight of this beer is actually the ABSENCE of chocolate on the palate and taste. The malts are actually fairly even, light and subtle with the key ingredient. I tasted with trepidation because I was downright worried about sipping a can of cocoa and beer mixed together. A pleasant surprise. However, the rest of the experience disappoints. The palate is thin, the hops weak, the aroma stale and the palate flat and functionless.
