Saranac Chocolate Lager is a sinfully delicious deep amber lager made with certified organic cacao from Belize. Our brewers looked far and wide for the highest quality cacao to create a smooth chocolaty taste that only comes from the most exclusive cacao plants. We used the roasted seeds of these decadent plants and perfectly paired them with caramel malt and German Hallertau hops to create a malty chocolate sweet flavor. You’ll love savoring this beer with your favorite holiday foods or on its own for a delicious treat!

Clear amber pour with faint offwhite head. Nose is slightly cocoa. Flavor is not all that great. A little burnt. A little caramel. A little tootsie roll. Fake. Didn’t really care for it.

Large, white, fine bubbled head that slowly faded. surprisingly light colored and flavored. I expected the chocolate to make it darker and heavier. Slightly sweet, refreshing, lightly hopped. More a summer beer. It went down quickly, a good session beer. Not much of an aftertaste.

The beer is a decent middle of the road beer, the best part is the coco nibs in the background. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Occasion: still sick, but getting better with meds.... Glassware: nondescript pilsener... Appearance: tan brown/orange body with a thin off-white head... Aroma: fresh, cocoa hints are a quick burst; fleeting, otherwise weak malts... Palate:medium-bodied and smooth; plapable but not heavy... Taste: sweet toffee/caramel plays with the cocoa in a welcoming dance... Overall: pleasant though not overpowering--a malty chocolate seasonal that satisfies....

Pours clear amber with a medium tan head. Aroma malty and generic...mildly wheaty. Tastes like a tootsie roll with some wheatiness. Mouthfeel is light and the finish has mild chocolate and earthy, bland malts.

rabbe7000 (19) - Maryland, USA - JAN 14, 2012
Pours a dark red color with a foamy head which disappears within 30 seconds or so. Cherry, coffee, and earth shine through in the smell. Tastes like an odd mixture of chocolate (very very bitter), coffee, and alcohol. Not overly sweet. Take away: tastes like the smell of dirt with some real bitter chocolate overtones.

jsmerig (1590) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 11, 2012
Pours a deep brown amber. Aroma of caramel and chocolate. Taste is fairly smooth. The middle tastes a bit sour like a bad porter. The aftertaste leaves a bit of chocolate which is nice.

Sregnar35 (1030) - Rotterdam, New York, USA - JAN 9, 2012
Bottled. Pours dark brown with a small head. Aroma is cheapo chocolate with a tangy off aroma. Flavor is very sweet cheap chocolate, nothing else. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
