Brewed in the Bavarian tradition. Our Helles is decoction mashed with select German malts to produce a malty brew. Our selecion of German Noble Hops and our authentic Bavarian Yeast combine to balance the maltiness and end in a dry refreshing beer.

The aroma is mostly of malts with some traces of hops. flavor is malt and nuts and as advertised the palate is dry. Ok beer, not something I would drink if it was not in the mix pack.

12 oz bottle. Pours a brownish gold with almost no head. Not a good aroma, almost like wet hay. Taste is better but nothing to write home about. A bit sweet with a malty finish. Not the best of the summer mix pack.

Poured pale yellow with some head and good carbonation. Slightly sweet with malt and alittle hops. Nice summer drink.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle 1129-1217. The pour is a very clear golden yellow with a long lasting but thin carbonated white head. The aroma drifts toward grassy and vaguely malty. The mouthfeel is like a watery honey texture. There is something sharp or dry about the taste. It cuts through the taste buds in that way and roars down the throat. Not a bad Saranac brew.

Light yellow with one finger of head that dissipated quckly. No lacing whatsoever. Lots of carbonation, too much in my opinion. This one came in a Saranac Summer Sampler 12er. Taste was slightly malty with a little discernible hop flavor. Maybe a little honey too. Meh, wouldn’t buy it again but I’d drink it again... if I had to.

Bottle. Pours a clear yellow with a small white head and lively carbonation. Aroma of sweet fruits and pale lager malts. Flavor of lots of bready/wheaty malt with some light sweetness in the finish. Again, a decent offering from Saranac although certainly on the boring side. 7/4/6/3/14 (3.4/5)

fredandboboflo (1570) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 18, 2009
Bottle. Aroma of pale malts, dank hops, lemon, hay. Flavor continues to be nicely balanced between generous malt, lemony tartness, and lightly resiny hops. Finishes pretty dry after all the sweet maltiness. Pretty nice.

Bottle from the 12-pack of Summer series ’09. Pours straw, yellow, clear, with minimal white head. After about 3 minutes, looks like apple juice. Aroma is faint sweetness, some pale malts. Flavor is also a little like apple juice, without the apples, dry finish, faint taste of straw, low on carbonation, not a very good beer.

Fairly uninspiring. Pale color, bubbly, some white head. Nose of hay and honey. Somewhat malty palate, lacking in hops, there is some grassy taste. I wouldn’t go out of my way to drink this one again.

Saranac Helles is a clear pale golden beer with a thin white head that leaves some lacing. It has a fruity aroma that’s faint and mellow. It’s light, maybe medium-light bodied and pretty smooth with a dry finish. It is mellow and well balanced; a little funky, with notes of pretzels and grass. It’s pretty uneventful.
