COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saranac Octoberfest is a rich flavorful lager. We use imported two-row and crystal malt and balance it with the pleasant bitterness of Saaz and Tettang hops.

Amber color with light head. Bready aroma, with hints of chestnuts and almonds. Malty sweet taste with oily texture. Medium carbonation. Not bad

(12oz bottle) AROMA: sweet malt, toast, cooked vegetables, metal, APPEARANCE: coppery Amber, nice carbonation, offwhite fuzzy small bubbled foam TASTE: toasted malt, burnt crust, grilled vegetables, touch of roasted sweetness, PALATE: medium body upfront, soft, creamy, some astringency and a bit watery on the backside.. OVERALL: just an ok beer. Looks really good in the glass, simple but interesting nose, but underwhelming in taste and body. A softer/lighter Oktoberfest.

Bottle shared with Vi and Ken. Pours a light golden body with thin white ring of lace. Mouthfeel is thin bodied overall with notes of crisp malt, sweet bread and light spice.

12 oz bottle from the sampler case. Like most brews from Saranac, this one was just about average. Pretty good throughout.

Quick tick grab since no luck getting the beer I wanted today. Orange pour small head. Nose is faint grains and caramel. Tastes of similar light grains, florals, caramel touch of paper. Fine fizzy palate. Bland but drinkable.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Clear, amber-brown with a khaki head and fair lacing. Aroma of zinc, caramel and floral hops. Taste of floral hops, caramel and metal. Light/medium body and medium/high carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I prefer a Oktoberfest of this style moreso than others because it has minimal sweetness and a nice bitterness with that lager crispness.

Malty hoppy with a bit of lagerish funk. A bit watery palate for a malty beer. Not bad for saranac and flavorful enough beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

While I found the 2014 version a poor example of the style due to flowery hop bitterness, the 2015 version is superb. As good as, and possibly better than any German import Marzen. Apparently the brewers modified the recipe by changing from "the pleasant bitterness of Saaz and Tettang hops" in the 2014 description to "rich, malty taste is subtly balanced by Saphir and Perle hops" in 2015. In a blind tasting this oktoberfest scored better than any German import among my friends.
