Aroma is splattered with hop, citrus and hint of caramel. Smooth hoppy taste, not too bitter very enjoyable HighlanderOne (1343) - York, SC via NJ, South Carolina, USA - JAN 26, 2013
Poured from bottle. Good aroma of hops and caramel. Red amber with coarse tan head. Mix of hop flavors - pine, floral, citrus - along with caramel, butterscotch and a hint of spice. Not bad. mattern33 (106) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 25, 2013
Bottle. Medium amber color with red tint. Good head. More malty then hoppy on palate. Ok taste but not a great IPA. DCLawyer (2846) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - JAN 24, 2013
Bottle->SA. Amber with medium off-white head. Aroma: caramel malt and hops. Taste: bitter hops and malt. Very plain and basic below-average IPA. jmohno (1628) - Iowa, USA - JAN 19, 2013
Clear rubish red.Ok froth,light lacing.
Some hoppiness in aroma as well as carmel maltiness, kinda grassy with citrus, dark berry fruits possibly.
Has some body to it, but dryness and crispness as well, pretty citrusy with dark carmel/roast.Strong dry rhindy bitter a bit harsh hitting kind of dirty bitter. Flavors in this seem to clash some for my tastes. And reds are one if not my favorate type of beer, this doesnt interest me as much as most of the others Ive had.

A nice attempt at a red IPA. Had a good weight to it and a decent hop profile. Nice color and head. Brian50Oshenb1 (2) - Connecticut, USA - JAN 16, 2013 does not count
I get sick of the people who write in and criticize any Saranac or Dundee beers. Two NY Brewers that have made good brews for years.
Just about everything they make is Very Good , Easily drinkable product that is reasonably priced. Could they take more chances with what they are making? Of Course, but is what we are drinking from them worthy of the criticizm? I hardly think so. Are all of you that sophisticated?
I HARDLY THINK SO. TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JAN 11, 2013
Tap at Tyler's. reddish amber with a thick creamy meringue type head. Nose is earthy, minerals, light citrus, and dirt. Flavor tastes like every other saranac pale type ale I've had, dirty, a little metallic and a bittersweet finish.

Pours an amber color. Not all that much on the nose. Citrus and hops present, somewhat metallic taste, but has a sour finish. Eh.

Bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber body with a small fizzy beige head that faded quickly to a wispy film. The nose is lightly hoppy with some toasted maltiness, just a little sweetness. The flavor is pretty light on the hops to be called an IPA, much more toasted malt coming across than bitterness. Finishes with a bit of citrusy hops and grainy malt. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied with fizzy prickly carbonation. Not exactly a winner, pretty much on the level of what you expect from a Saranac.
