Not a bad beer, definitely special by Saranac’s standards. Good malty character, some nice breadiness. VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - NOV 14, 2001
2001 edition Nut Brown Lager. Nice toasted nutty malts with a dry bready body and a little sweetness. Good earthy German hop balance. Thin for a winter brew but a good winter session brew. Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 30, 2002
Deep amber color with a medium thick lasting head with good lace. Sweet and slightly fruity hop aroma. Sweet hoppy flavor with a malty nutty background and finish. DocLock (10659) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 31, 2004
UPDATED: JUN 23, 2012 Rated: 2003 version. Someone correct me...does Saranac have a non-Seasons Best nut brown? This beer is scarce! Very nutty, with great nutty aromas. Finishes smooth, with nuts and malt and subdued hios all the way down. A great nut brown. Hawksfan17 (890) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - NOV 25, 2004
Has a nice hoppy nutty aroma to it. Pours brown with white head. It has a very rich nutty taste with a good kick of hops. Very nice seasonal.

Not a bad brew, although if you asked after drink it where it was a lager or an ale, I would reply ale confidently, I guess that shows you what I know. Brown color, translucent with a good sized off-white head. Aroma is nutty and sweet, it kind of reminds me of a pecan pie. Oily mouth feel. Finish starts somewhat sweet, but in the end hops rule the day.
Faible carbonisation. Arrière goût d’huile de noisette. (Rating #110) bendz1 (87) - Ankeny, Iowa, USA - JAN 1, 2007
Slight nutty flavor along with some hops. Dark brown in color. Good seasonal beer to try. yesyouam (1016) - Fairport, New York, USA - MAY 15, 2007
This is a rust-colored lager with a dissipating thin white head. The aroma is of caramel malt and... a bit grassy. It is thin and watery-- a light body that’s very clean. The flavor is tight and pretty bitter. The caramel malt is present and it’s a touch sour. Good stuff. nuplastikk (6224) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 22, 2008
UPDATED: JAN 2, 2009 12oz bottle. Dark amber color, stained glass brown. Nice frothy head that dissipates after a minute or two. Aroma of sweet brown malt and seawater. Medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, lots of nutty and spicy malt thickness up front, which fades into a smooth lagery finish. Spicy hop character. A great session beer.
