Our Saranac Winter Lager is a rich, malty, old school German Lager, made with traditional German malts and hops and fermented with a lager yeast. Look for a rich but smooth malty taste, balanced by an impressive Hallertau hopping-A nice reward for enduring our winter months.

blind tasting. lightly spiced, malty, medium mouthfeel, caramel maltiness. Ok

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear orangish body with a small fizzy off-white head. The nose is fairly light with some graininess and a minimal touch of hops. The flavor is overly sweet and pretty boring, even for Saranac. Kinda reminds me of malta a little bit. Well lagered though, thereís no off flavors here, itís just too sweet and boring. Medium bodied and a little clingy with light fizzy forced carbonation. Not one of my favorites from them.

This one poured a dark amber color with a white head. Aroma was bready malts, a bit sweet and nothing else. Flavor was very bland, munich malts and not much else, very thin.

Location: Draft at Living Social Beerfest, 12/6/2013

Aroma:The aroma is mid-sweet with some fruity notes and some somewhat off malty notes
Appearance: It pours an amberish color with a small off-white head on it
Flavor: The taste leans way to the off side, this one just didnít quite work for me
Palate: The body of this one is light-medium, with an okay mouthfeel
Overall Impression: For me, this was not a very good beer at all. It isnít really that I was expecting much, but somehow this one still didnít meet my expectations. Really, just not good at all.

Pours brown with a tan head. Smells resiny and nutty. Tastes caramelly and sweet with some earthy elements.

From the Winter variety 12 pack: Walnut and sweet roasted malt nose, remiscent of maple syrup, but only a little bit. Clear brown, no head. Soapy mouthfeel. Sweet malt flavor, but not cloying. A little tinny. Uninspired for the most part.

12oz bottle. Filtered chestnut brown-amber color. Frothy off-white head. Sweet medium-dark malt aroma. Rich caramel malt tones, with a drinkable very-Saranac body. Lacks much depth, seems like itís missing some pieces. Solid enjoyable sugary sweet malt tones, and a touch of soapy bitterness. Despite these qualities, itís still watery and bland, and a tad too sugary for itís own good. A beer Saranac should nail, and only pull off half-heartedly. Good for a tick, not much else.

Clear light golden coloured body with a thin white head. Aroma of pungent malt, a touch of lemons and not much else. Light-bodied; Strong cardboardie malt flavours with a bit of metal and some light sugars. Stronger pungent malt follows with a little sweetness and a very minor hop taste. Overall, a pretty weak beer, but thatís expected based on where itís coming from. Definitely worth passing up, but only worth sampling when someone hands you one for free. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle pulled from a Winter 12 pack purchased here in Virginia.

The aroma isnít much its got a touch of caramel malt and grassy hops to go along with yeast, dust, and metal. The appearance is amber with with a nice foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall a drinkable but not very likable beer.

Butters (4059) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 26, 2010
Pours a clear burnt amber with very quick fading tan head. Nose is grainy, vaguely vegetal, and a bit bandaid, but not offensive, and with a hint of spice. Flavor is toasty, verging on burnt. Some caramel, but mostly a 7 grain piece of toast. Moderate carbonation and fairly full bodied mouthfeel. Not the best Iíve had from these guys, but not too bad for a vienna. Iíd still take a negra modelo over this any day.
