Pours a rich dark brown color with a slight white head. Flavor is a sugary bready mixture that is delicious. One of my favorite Saranac offerings. generallee08 (772) - New York, USA - JUN 11, 2014
The body has a garnet color with good clarity. On top sits a thin half inch thick head which is beige in color and fades quickly. Lacing is very minimal and slick leaving a mostly clean glass behind. It is light overall in the nose with some malty sweetness and hints of leafy, almost herbal/metallic hops. There is a rich bready sweetness up front with some light roasted grain notes as well. This maltiness meats some hop flavor in the middle it and adds a nice moderate balance of hop spice and bitterness with just a very slight metallic edge. It seems to finish quickly and fairly clean. It is dryer than it started but there is still a thin residual sweetness mixed with thin hop bitterness. The body is light to medium with average carbonation. For the style it seems just a little on the light side but everything is in good balance for the style. Once again Saranac has brewed another decent easy drinking beer.

Extremely rich malty nose filled with caramel & brown sugar. Taste starts off full of malt then opens up to some dull nut and earthy dryness and a backgrond of burnt toast. Not as impressive as the nose but still comforting and hearty enough for a winter’s day. Finish is dusty and subdued. LIghtly carbonated and a peaceful light brown colour. 12oz - Aroma of toasted malts and leather. Flavor of caramel, toffee and toasted malts. Palate is sticky. Not a bad dark lager. Cletus (6355) - Connecticut, USA - OCT 24, 2009
Pours brown with a tan head. Smells resiny and nutty. Tastes caramelly and sweet with some earthy elements.

POurs amber. Nose is nutty, toasted malt and sweet caramel. Flavor is bready, nutty, floral hops, sugar sweet, cinnamon. freekyp (2235) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - JAN 6, 2010
Nice malty lager with a bockish sweetness, but a rich spicy hop character. Aroma is shows brown sugar, earthy malt and some noble twang. Pours a gorgeous auburn with a thick sticky white head that leaves a lot of lacing. Finish is well balanced with a little brown sugar sweetness showing through receding into a mellow malty lingering. Packs more flavor than most other Viennas I’ve tried. Well done. Leighton (21239) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 14, 2010
Bottle. Pours a nice amber-brown with a medium, off-white head. Nose is heavy on the malts. More malty sweetness in the flavor, with caramel, light brown sugar and toffee. Faint hops of the earthy variety. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet, semi-sticky finish. Not bad overall. Drake (13728) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 3, 2009
12 ounce bottle from the winter sampler. Pours a clear amber color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is malty and slightly nutty with faint fruit notes. Taste is nutty and malty with notes of caramel, light berries and other fruit notes, toasted malts and nail polish. Medium bodied. PhatB420 (840) - Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA - DEC 7, 2009
From the 12 beers o winter sampler, which is great, this is another solid saranac brew that settles in the kettle with an abundance of malts smacking you in the face. A homey winter esque feeling fills the room when sipped and enjoyed. Great after hours of tobogganing.
