Decent beer. First sip was nice and chocolately but I don’t get that after a few sips, too bad. Has a kind of soapy/astrigent aroma. Somewhat bitter aftertaste. I think I prefer my scotch ales straight up, malty and sweet. crossovert (13414) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 24, 2013
Certainly not hop forward but more like a scotch ale with a smatterin of c hops. Its good. esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 18, 2013
Deep amber with a medium off-white crown. Aroma of toffee and citrus with bready malt and mild caramel. Taste is sweet but balanced with toffee, toasted malt, citrus with a mild bitter citrusy finish. wmubronco1992 (709) - Coldwater, Michigan, USA - NOV 16, 2013
Bottle. Pours dark amber. Huge frothy head. Mild Peat aroma. Peat and sweet malt in flavor. Not getting the hops in this one. This was a good beer and I do like this brewery a lot, but I would have expected a bit more flavor a in this one. flatmatt (1593) - Northville, Michigan, USA - SEP 1, 2013
12 oz bottle. Pours an orange amber with an off-white head. Toasty caramel toffee aroma. Toasted biscuit and caramel flavors with some aged hoppiness, toffee, earthy, red apple hints. It’s pretty tasty.

Bottle pour to pint. Mildly sweet caramel malt and mild hoppiness. Smooth and pleasant. superspak (5793) - Michigan, USA - APR 25, 2013
12 ounce bottle into snifter, best before 6/3/2013. Pours slightly hazy ruby red color with a 1 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of caramel, raisin, pine, grapefruit, orange zest, toast, floral, bread, light peat, and floral earthiness; some slight phenols, but not much. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of hop and malt complexity. Taste of caramel, raisin, grapefruit, orange zest, pine, toast, brown sugar, floral, light chocolate, bread, and floral earthiness. Slight pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, raisin, citrus, pine, floral, toast, brown sugar, light chocolate, and floral earthiness on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance and complexity of malt and hop flavors; with a great balance of moderate hop bitterness and malt sweetness; and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good hoppy scotch ale. Nice complexity of hop and malt flavors with great balance; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering. b33f (23) - Illinois, USA - APR 18, 2013
Pours a dark reddish amber with about 1 finger of off white head which disappears quickly. The smell is faint malts, not too much going on. The taste is not very hoppy at all for a beer with the word hop in the title. The scotch ale flavor is there, but it’s not as pleasant as Founders Dirty Bastard for example. The palate is good, it’s about as thick as you’d want a scotch ale to be, slightly smooth and creamy. I was expecting something more along the lines of Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale, so this was disappointment. Not a bad beer, but not what I was hoping for. Krej (224) - USA - APR 6, 2013
I’ve been searching for this beer for months and I was always disappointed when I saw the box but the bottles weren’t hopscotch. Today I finally found it and started drinking it as soon as I could. It has a nice creamy head and is a translucent amber color. It smells and tastes a bit scotchy but not very hoppy. It has a sweet caramel maltyish taste that is very good. I’ll definitely be getting this again as its very good and not that expensive. malkyore (377) - - APR 6, 2013
I had this at a tasting a while ago before it was released. I was blown away then and I am definitely not disappointed now. This is a great beer malty with enough hops to be noticed. I could see how you would be disappointed if you were looking for a very hoppy beer, because this is not that. What you get instead is a caramelly sweet malty beer with a slight hoppy presence. This is a great beer, but if you were expecting something bitter look elsewhere.
