Pour from a 22 oz bottle. An inky deep dark brew with two fingers of tan head that settles down to a half inch or so of persistent foam. Very dark and cloudy – held up to a window on a sunny day I can’t see through it. Held up to a desk light I see a dull reddish glow. Aroma of complex roasted and burnt malts. Exquisite flavor starting with great burnt malts and roasted coffee flavors, subtle sweetness offset by perfectly balancing hops that leaves a gentle bitter smack on the back of the tongue and wonderfully balances the maltiness but nonetheless presents a very well restrained hops profile. Clean, fresh finish with little lingering after taste. Palate is medium, satisfying and appropriate for a porter. Masterfully brewed. Excellent! slipy120 (81) - Michigan, USA - JUL 17, 2011
Solid porter for sure. Good aroma, good taste and damn if it isn’t a pretty beer to boot. Strong taste, almost more stout than porter (not a bad thing). Bought it from the Michigan beer section and I would defiantly buy this beer again. Keep up the good work. flatmatt (1576) - Northville, Michigan, USA - JUN 3, 2011
12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark red brown with a light tan head. Lightly roasted coffee and cocoa aroma. Restrained roasty flavor, coffee, with dark cocoa and a touch of molasses. Maybe just a tiny touch of banana. Great flavor, very well done. superspak (5594) - Michigan, USA - AUG 13, 2012
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled 1/7/2012. Pours crystal clear very dark reddish brown color with a very nice 2 finger dense khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Some good spotty lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, nuttiness, toffee, biscuit, herbal hops, and slight smoke. Very nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, biscuit, nuttiness, toffee, light coffee, and herbal spiciness. Fair amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, light coffee, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance malt and bitterness; quite robust and no cloying flavors at all. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and very smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with pretty much no warming noticed at all after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice porter. Robust, balanced, and very drinkable. I really enjoyed this one, I don’t know what the other reviewers are drinking. polomagnifico (1202) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - JUN 23, 2011
Bottle. Aroma has notes of chocolate, roasted malts, smoke peat, and citrus. Sits black in the glass with an average light tan head and leaves really good lace. Flavor is medium sweet and bitter. Palate is medium bodied and oily soft. Overall a very good porter. A good one.

12 ounce bottle. Don’t judge a book by its cover, and don’t let bland bottle art ruin your impression of a beer. This beer has all the looks of something you’d find on sale at Jewel, but I was pleasantly surprised by its robust flavor and less-filling delivery. It’s a dark, opaque brown with a continuous layer of foam and lacing on the glass. The aroma is woodsy and the flavor is unsweetened chocolate and nuts. I’d like to try more from this brewery because they did a good job here. Mittenator (1612) - Michigan, USA - JUN 15, 2013
Draft at the mitten bar. Deep brown with a beige head. Sour and malt aromas. Smooth and extra malty. chinchill (5011) - South Carolina, USA - NOV 20, 2013
Pours with a huge, foamy head; so large my way oversized snifter could not initially hold the entire 12 oz bottle. Soon enought, this died down to a denser tan head that produced very good lacing and had a nice feel. The near black body was medium-full, very smooth, but marred by a bit of tongue burn as if the ABV were at least 3X higher. The aroma is quite nice and true to style, as is the flavor. Leaves a robust and lasting aftertaste, with dark roasted malts that have a hint of smoke but virtually no burnt element.

Bottle. Poured black color with an average frothy light brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium dark sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. My expectations where met. jsquire (4489) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - OCT 9, 2011
On tap at the brewpub. Dark beer with mahogany hues around the edges. Thin, sticky, tauny colored head. Dark brown sugar sweetness with some chocolate and burnt grain flavors. Nice, sweet porter.
