Dark brown pour with off-white head. The nose is slightly smokey with pretty roasty malt hints. Roasted malt goodness upfront, coupled with a moderate smoke in the finish. Wish it were a bit fuller and creamier in mouthfeel, though. Enjoyable brew. jsquire (4424) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - AUG 29, 2010
On tap at the pub. Dark mahogany beer with a thin beige head. Odd burning plastic nose. Some campfire and smoked meat in the flavor, but not what I want from a smoked porter. This was an odd beer. StefanSD (2451) - Ouray, Colorado, USA - JUL 25, 2010
3 oz taster cup at the Michigan Beer Fest in Ypsilanti 2010. Pours an opaque dark brown color with a small tan head. The aroma is that of a big smoked monster. The taste is similar to the aroma, lots of smoke, invoking images of bacon, brats and ribs slow cooked over hickory and mesquite. The palate is full and creamy with soft carbonation. Finishes long with lingering smokiness. Overall: Great brew--reminds me of the schlenkerla rauchbiers.
