COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You approach the solitary windswept pine as it sits stoically upon its tiny perch of Canadian Shield and you wonder to yourself, “Why does this beautiful tree stand alone?” Then as you step closer, in awe of its majestic splendour, a branch blows down and slaps you right across your face. Sawdust City’s Lone Pine IPA is aggressively hopped and bursting with flavours of pine and citrus, loaded with mounds of hops and balanced with a blend of 4 different malts. Like that truculent tree, each glass is like a pine bow across your face.

650mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours a cloudy dark orange with a large white head. Aroma brings out loads of piney hops, a little citrus zest, and some crisp crackery malt - loads of pine though. Flavour brings out a huge wallop of intensely bitter piney hops - oh man is this piney and hoppy. Super dry, fairly astringent, but super drinkable. Excellent IPA.

Cloudy amber, some fruity character and light bitterness, with a fair bit of yeastiness.

473ml can (Alus Celle, Riga) (7:4:7:4:14=3.6)
Really fruity aroma, tons of dried pineapple, some dried papaya and peach. Hazy pale orange. Lots of dark caramel in the taste, fruity hops, as telegraphed by the aroma. Nice piney resiny bitterness too. Nice dry hop spiciness. Full palate, smoothish, coats the mouth, resins stick nicely. Kinda refreshing, and nicely drinkable at 6.5%, I’m drinking it as if it was a 5.0-5.2% (so with respect, but no feeling the need for restraint). Nice fresh IPA.

Benzai (16569) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - AUG 1, 2017
Can @ home. Lightly unclear orange color, medium to full sized white to off-white head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, hops. Don’t get much else. Taste malts, hops, hop bitter, light grapefruit, medium bitter, hop bitter. Medium body and carbonation.

Draft - Grapefruit sweet hops. Clear gold with a decent creamy beige head. Big grapefruit pith and resin. Grapefruit finish. Nice grapefruit hop bomb, out of balance but good.

Lubiere (14133) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - APR 29, 2012
A murky amber IPA with a thick big bubbled off white head. In aroma, a strange piney hops with musky meaty notes, light sulphur. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with loads of floral hops, menthol, grassy, in your face. Cask at Ontario Cask IPA Challenge, April 21, 2012.

On tap release party at the Burger Bar, regular tap version. Orange citrus aroma but also a bit funky smell in there. Carbonation right there. Served way too cold. Waited till warmed. A bit astringent. Simcoe, Centennial, and Cascade. Would like more malt backbone, the IBU comes right at you. hop juice, making drinkability somewhat difficult. Good head retention, 3/8"

473 ml can. Canned Aug/30/2016. (LCBO) Thunder Bay, ON.
Clear golden color with a mid-size foamy white head. Piney and citrusy hops, mild bitterness, dryness and dry malt in a clean aroma. The flavor is resiny, piney and citrusy hops, moderate bitterness, dryness and dry grainy maltiness. Dry and hoppy. Nice.

UPDATED: APR 25, 2012 2012-04-21. Lightly hazy golden orange amber body with a small frothy off-white head. 3+ Fruity aroma, sort of citrusy with leafy overtones that grow as you go. 6+ Flavour is similar, mild muddled fruit and citrus, leafy green hops are more dominant in the flavour than in the aroma. 6+ Average to light bodied palate is decent for a cask. Funny aftertaste, strong leafy hops and something I can’t place. 7/3/6/3/13 Blind Tasting on Cask at Volo IPA Challenge

2012-12-22. Crisp dark amber body, nice foamy beige head and nice lace on the glass. 3+ Pleasant modest bitterness throughout, very crisp, modest resin character, very light citrus, mild biscuity toasty malt accents, experientially (Is that really what I wrote?) reminds me of Crazy Canuck, but more so. 7+ First sniff of toasty malt, quickly gives way to modest resin and muted citrusy hops. Surprisingly malt forward overall, but with a nice amount of hoppy bitterness. Average plus bodied palate. 7+ Pretty solid, quite drinkable but less aggressively hopped than I typically look for. Tap at Burger Bar 7/4/7/3/14
