COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mahogany perfection glistening off the lake, it’s pristine finish shimmers as it glides effortlessly across the water. The gentleman driver leans back and relaxes, letting the fresh lake air blow through his hair. Images of those classic wood powerboats populate the memories of Muskoka and lakes across North America. And to commemorate this bygone era, Sawdust City has brewed a beer as classic and pristine as the waterfront that once ruled our lakes. Ol’ Woody Alt is a lagered ale, fashioned after the beers from the Dusseldorf region of Germany. Filtered to a gleaming mahogany this ale drinks as smooth as the finish on those iconic wood boats of yesteryear. So come on down to Sawdust City and savour a taste of the past.

Session Sunday at Bar Hop. $5 pints of select brews. Thist altbier by Sawdust City is balanced and flavourful, and sessionable.

On tap @ Gig’s - taps a lightly hazed copper-orange with a puffy lasting off white cap. Moderate carbonation. Aroma is robust with Munich red malts - toasty and noble hopping, some light fruitiness. Medium bodied creamy mouth feel, smooth malt accented character. Flavor is fairly well balanced between toasty-bready malts and herbal woody hops - long dry bittersweet nutty malty finish with a hop bite. If I closed my eyes I’d think I was drinking a fresh Dusseldorf Alt. I enjoy this lagered amber ale and it is probably the best Albier we have had in this market since the Duckstein supply dried up.

Pours dark brown with enormous light brownish head that tastes incridible and sticks around for little bit. Really nice woody taste to it. Great finish with great sensation on your gums. Pretty lively for ale, and it has lighter texture than normal ales. Really easy drinking for ale.

Can from brewery. Lovely warm reddish brown color with off white head. Biscuits and caramel in aroma and flavours. Quite drinkable.

Enjoyed at the National Capital Craft Beer Week. Pours a clean copper colour with a white head. Grainy malt nose with fresh hops that give out fruity notes. Nice slight dry finish. Again, fruity and cereal malt flavours. A nice grainy pale ale and good for this style.

Bought directly from the brewery. Smells malty with a hint of hops. Pours a medium dark brown with head that lasts to the end. Taste is malty, a little sweet with a hop undertone. Good carboantion, with a medium hop aftertaste. Overall I was happy with this beer. IBU is advertised as 35, but I would say 25 tops. Very well balanced, easy drinking. Would buy again. MB. The roasted nuttiness of this beer is pretty appealing, though the aroma is a bit off. A little acidic. A good session as its pretty drinkable. Sweet with a medium body.

(Rating #7694)

I tried this beer on December 16, 2011 at "Bar Volo" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a beautiful translucent red with a thin tan coloured ring for a head. The aroma consisted of some sweet malt, citrus hints, and grains. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was a decent balkance between the sweetness of the malt, and the mild grapefruity tasting hops. The hoppiest altbier I’ve ever had.

Draught at Burger Bar. Dec. 21, 2011. Pours a clear deep copper-gold with a small diminishing frothy off-white head. Mild, slightly sweet aroma of grain, caramel malt and spices. Flavour’s a nice surprise as I’m not a huge fan of the style, with lightly toasted caramel malt, grain, fruit and a decent bitter finish -- just a touch watery but not enough to detract. Average bodied. Pretty good, I enjoyed it.
