On tap at Arendsnest. Dark brown pour with white head. Aroma is quite interesting, roasty notes, light smokiness even, fruity (raisins), hazelnut. Taste is sweet, roasty malt flavor, just a hint of smoke, nutty, semi-dry finish. Palate is rich and creamy. I really enjoyed this one, nice traditional beer. Bottle @home (lost notes in May found them today). Pours black. The nose is a little disappointing but the taste does make up for it. I touch of smoke/oak with a wee touch of sweetness which makes it like a good rack of BBQ ribs. This beer is better than the sum of its overall parts. Zita (6325) - Assentoft, DENMARK - SEP 3, 2013
light burnt light bitter aroma, dark brown, light brown foam, light sweetness, medium bitterness, medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, bitter, long finish, Hansen (8595) - Assentoft, DENMARK - SEP 3, 2013
Dark brown, almost black. Has a light brown head, medium duration. Roasted aroma, sweet malts, dark caramel. Flavor is complex, roasted sweetness, bitterness. Light acid. Creamy, dry texture. McNeillR (2322) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 5, 2013
Dark brown body with lingering ring of tan head. Super sweet chocolate nose, earthy freshly watered soil underneath. Firm but fair initial taste, fairly cooling mouthfeel and not as sticky sweet as I thought/hoped. Not the smoothest of chocolate palates, touches of fig and overbearing grain in the midrange, before a clamy sweet finish. No real notion of roasted anything but solid enough to allow a spread of flavour for the ABV.

Thanks to LONick for the bottle. I think I really thought if it was special enough for ’special permission’ to be brewed to limited volume it would be more impressive in some aspects, but just keeps within the lines of a neat and unsweet stout.

Noord Holland Bierfest 2008. Poured black with a large tan head. Aroma of dark fruit and softly sweet malt. Medium to full body, flavour of dark fruit, mildly roasted chocolate malt and coffee hints. Dry, slightly bitter aftertaste. Plaas (92) - Alkmaar, NETHERLANDS - SEP 8, 2012
Easy going but really great stout. Just wat a stout should be. Lots of chocolate, coffee, liquorice, resins. Roasty, malty, deep. I don’t know wether this is a good tribute to the original Van Vollenhoven Stout, but it certainly is a tribute to the style. erickok (6037) - Leuven, BELGIUM - MAY 7, 2012
Pitch black body, tan head. Creamy aroma, butterscotch, macaroons, light coffee. Medium full body, pretty smooth and with a mild carbonation. Good, even fierce amount of hop bitterness over the inherit roasted malt aroma. Sticky ending. Classic feel to this beer. Good amount of flavour for the ABV. Really nice actually. 33 cl bottle thanks to Nisse666! Sampled on March 8, 2012
Clear and black with a thin tan head. Sweet molasses, chocolate, coffee in the aroma. Taste of big roasty malts, smoke, and more molasses. Big mouthfeel with a roasty finish.
