Light and frothy, more like a porter. Smooth malt, mild roastiness. Faint trace of something herbal. Dry malty finish. Goes down easy enough but it’s such a simple beer it defies easy description!
(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a hazy dark brown with a reddish hue and a nice beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malts and a little vanilla. Quite a decent full body with a somewhat heavy carbonation. Sweetish burned malt accents with distinct vanila notes. Some malt bitterness in the far finish. 031008 chriso (21656) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 11, 2011
From bottle at De Pilsener Club, Amsterdam on 9 April 2011. Very dark brown colour with a generous tan head.. Not quite opaque. Dry with plenty of powdery chocolate and some burnt malt notes. Firm mouthfeel with a slightly prickly carbonation. Straightforward but satisfying. Very enjoyable and extremely drinkable. And I can’t really think of a better place to drink a recreation of a very old beer.
