Bottle, RBESG, August 2005. Reddish, dark brown colour. rather too prickly and fizzy on the tongue. Lots of toffee, treacle and chocolate. Some fruity notes on the palate (prunes). I was going to say it didn’t seem like a barley wine but, despite the commercial description, we don’t have it listed as one anyway. Nothing special.

1st October 2008. Cloudy dark brown beer. Chocolatey malt with a slightly sour undertone - almost like an aged scotch ale. There is a subtle creamy sweetness in the mid followed by a sharp effervescent sting in the finish. All hangs together well. Tasty and complex. Borresteijn (7595) - Zaandam, NETHERLANDS - DEC 4, 2009
33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Muddy dark reddish brown colour, off white head. Strong aroma of sweet dark malts, dark fruits like prunes and raisins, yeast (St.Bernardus-like), some candy sugar. Flavour is very malty, dark bread, rather sweet, dark fruits like figs and raisins, light yeasty, malty sweet and light nutty bitter finish. A bit thin toward the end, overall medium bodied. Nice strong ale, but just a bit too sweet imo. oh6gdx (26485) - Vasa, FINLAND - OCT 14, 2009
Bottled. Deep reddish brown colour with mediumsized slightly off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts, some slight alcohol, mild spices as well as some mild chocolaty notes. Flavour is being quite much the same, but the alcohol shows a bit better. Yet the alcohol fits in quite well daniele (9888) - ITALY - AUG 25, 2009

Sweet, chocolate caramel coffee brown sugary flavor. Although it is strong in alcohol, the alcohol is not overpowering and dominant, quite contrary. Low bitterness. Not carbonated. Brown color. Slokop (107) - Tilburg, NETHERLANDS - APR 9, 2009

An older specimen of this beer bottled some 18 months earlier. Small head, coffee and dates (Phoenix dactylifera). Faint remains of hop aroma’s (Humulus lupulus) over stemmed by liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra root). I think I prefer this one a bit younger. KnutAlbert (6798) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAR 20, 2009
Brown beer, lots of floaties. Quite sweet, surprisingly thin bodied. Alcohol warming. Over the top.
